“Nobody in America should be poor” -New York Times
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/11/m...-homeless.html
Article describes a story of Vanessa, who supports her 3 kids. Quotes:
“for almost three years, she had belonged to the “working homeless,” a now-necessary phrase in today’s low-wage/high-rent society.”
“After juggling the kids and managing her diabetes, Vanessa is able to work 20 to 30 hours a week, which earns her around $1,200 a month.”
“If Vanessa clocked more hours, it would be difficult to keep up with all the ways she manages her family: doing the laundry, arranging dentist appointments, counseling the children about sex, studying their deep mysteries to extract their gifts and troubles. Yet our political leaders tend to refuse to view child care as work.”
“for people like Vanessa, the question is not, Can I land a job? (The answer is almost certainly, Yes, you can.) Instead the question is, What kinds of jobs are available to people without much education? By and large, the answer is: jobs that do not pay enough to live on.”
“Nobody in America should be poor, period. No single mother struggling to raise children on her own; no formerly incarcerated man who has served his time; no young heroin user struggling with addiction and pain; no retired bus driver whose pension was squandered; nobody. And if we respect hard work, then we should reward it, instead of deploying this value to shame the poor and justify our unconscionable and growing inequality. “I’ve worked hard to get where I am,” you might say. Well, sure. But Vanessa has worked hard to get where she is, too.”
Cliffs:
-NYT states nobody should be poor in America
-single mother of 3 struggles and is poor
-America failing its citizens?
Thoughts?

If you work 40 hours a week you shouldn't be near homeless.
We have trillions of dollars for bombs and meaningless wars, but not for taking care of American citizens. I wonder which country Israel is going to get us to go to war with next? My money is on Iran.

I do believe that people should have an out. Vanessa should have the opportunity to get out of her financial situation with hard work.
But I do not see any serious solutions to the problem of poverty being proposed.
Vanessa has 3 kids that she can't support, those are 3 poor life decisions right there. She's a repeat offender. I gather these mistakes are ones she will continue to make in the future.
How would throwing money at a person like this change anything?
I fear if she had more time on her hands, it wouldn't necessarily be devoted to "teaching her kids about sex". Idle hands for her would probably lead to more babies.
While her peers were working hard in high school or at fast food restaurants afterwards, Vanessa was probably getting railed left and right because she was idle.
Now we expect her to change why?

Vanessa's working 20 hours a week, has 3 kids, supports her mother, widow of her crack addict dad, and not one of the kids' fathers is there.

She must be too stupid to realize that having unprotected sex can lead to pregnancy. I mean, you'd think she would have learned after the first one. But no, she had two more.

Um....
"Single mother of 3

There are over 7.6 billion humans on this planet. It never needed an extrathreethat you can't even support, pumpkin.
If the NYT's sorry attempt at a pity parade of an argument hinges upon someone who is apparentlyshockedthat a baby pops out of her overactive vage afterthree timesand said babies are a monetary drain, then that transcends ignorance into deep stupidity territory.
I can find empathy in plenty of personal scenarios and I am not averse to the idea that there is such a thing as too rich, but choosing to have children even attheirexpense for the parent or parents inability to support them is a matter of personal accountability and poor decision making. Next time, get three goldfish.

Death is impossible for us to fathom: it is so immense, so frightening, that we will do almost anything to avoid thinking about it. Society is organized to make death invisible, to keep it several steps removed. That distance may seem necessary for our comfort, but it comes with a terrible price: the illusion of limitless time, and a consequent lack of seriousness about daily life. We are running away from the one reality that faces us all.

she's poor for a reason, people are also poor for a reason. It's a different story if your in a third world country and your village gets raided by savages who steal the food and loot. In America you are literally poor cause of your bad decisions. How many poor people sit around and watch tv after work, and play video games , millions do. They lack the drive to further there skill and knowledge to make more income. You can get a free library card and learn new skills from books but people would rather watch tv and complain they are poor and working 2-3 jobs to survive than try to learn new skills that can earn money not per hour but for skill.
It's about working hard but you can't work hard at low skill jobs and expect to not be poor. Nobody needs to pay you 20/hr to put burgers on a little grill and let it heat up a robot can do it and will do it in the future. They pay more for a chef who can cook gourmet meals that get people to pay lot's of money for a dinner experience. So if you want to make a living cook learn how to be a fcking chef.
Tired of this bs about nobody should be poor you can't help everyone some people don't want to strive for anything let em rot. I believed as a kid to help and save everyone but my parents and grandmother has told you can't help everyone. I can give a homeless man $20 cause he says he hungry, he can go spend that on drugs or beer. This is an example of someone you cannot help no matter what you do. There is many people in the world we just cannot help man this is the sad truth. They have kids and those kids suffer but we cannot save the kids without taking them from the parents. which would hurt the kids even more.... in the end you cannot save them and any attempt to help cause more pain for you and the kids as the parents waste the cash.
I wish a knew a solution for this sht but it's not easy. How can you stop some idiot from having 3-4 kids with deadbeats.. you can't stop it man
I'm all for helping people but can we really help this person in the Nytimes article, giving her free money is not going to help her have the skills necessary to get a job that pays more. She needs to put effort in as well but how does she find the time for it with 3 kids? If people helped her enough to study 2-3 hours per day would she do it? This is the thing with society we can't just give people free money that don't help them. They need time to improve, if they are not willing to utilize that time to improve then they are poor by there own fault.
I also feel like many systems implemented to help people is abused by true rotters and degenerates. Something we cannot stop and it jades many people as well when they see these pyschopaths and crazy fcks wasting money making you not want to support it. As human's I don't know if we can make it man. To much people are becoming cynical and jaded, lost and lazy. I hope someone creates AI to govern us. If they create AI and it turns against us maybe that will give human's the strength to not be lazy anymore and get it together. Either that or we will lose and be killed.

I can't even imagine how these whiny wage cucks would hold up working in fields in Mexico for 10 pesos or a rice paddy in Asia. These guys would just die.

"Counseling her children about sex"
I see the people who wrote this piece of garbage for the irresponsible single mother of 3 are the same people who want to take away childrens' innosense from early age, starting from elementary school (or even before) with sex education.
Radical libs doin' the talking here, so easy to spot them out.
The world needs to get rid of them ASAP.

My dad came To the US to escape a war with $500 in his pocket and became a self made millionaire because he had the work ethic and the balls to make choices no one else but him could make. No one is poor by accident, its actually incredibly difficult to be truly homeless, you have to really put your mind to it.

I can't even imagine how these whiny wage cucks would hold up working in fields in Mexico for 10 pesos or a rice paddy in Asia. These guys would just die.
