Lol nah. He's Kendrick's biggest influence and he said the MMLP changed his life. J. Cole was influenced by him. That's two of the best lyricists in the new school. Tyler has also said Eminem was one of his biggest influences (particularly Relapse). Logic also has shouted out Eminem as an influence.

Lettuce be real tea:

Eminem may not be the force to be reckoned with he once was, but he is FAR from being on the most overrated rappers list.

Drake
Kendrick Lamar
Lil Wayne
Fat Joe
Mac Miller
Nelly
LL Cool J
Puff Daddy
Will Smith
Lil Kim
DMX

I could go on. But all these rappers are given a lot of respect and attention despite being nowhere close to the top rappers of all time!

another point of eminem being overrated is his influence on rap. other than inspiring other white rappers, he has almost zero influence on rap.
Because most rappers can't make a career rapping like him these days. Look at Hopsin. Great skill but he just copied eminem's style and has cringe as fuk hooks/beats. That style of rap died many years ago

Difference is Em can adapt and can rap fast slow or whatever he's not one dimensional that's why he's still around

How so? If you inspire some of the best rappers you're directly influencing the culture. Those are basically synonyms.

eminem's style is dated imo. the only reason he's still around is because he has such a huge fanbase.

his style/sound. no one other hopsin has an eminem type sound/style. it's not a knock on eminem, just an observation that i made.

look at kanye or lil wayne and how much they're influenced current rap.

There's more to rap than cadence, my dude. You're literally arguing against something these rappers have said themselves: that Eminem directly inspired/influenced how they rap. You can claim inspire and influence are two different things to avoid conceding the point (I'm not sure why bc it doesn't invalidate your overall argument, even though I disagree with that too), but the thesaurus proves you wrong on that:https://www.thesaurus.com/browse/inspire

Nahh...Tupac is. His lyrics were good, as far as racist, gangsta dhit goes, but his music and rapping skills always blew.
Eminem is superior in every musical way. And a genius at PR and marketing!

Cheers yo.

I gave you several rappers above. You have to look into the lyrics: Wordplay, word-bending to rhyme things. If you want specific rhyme schemes look at Kendrick's Black Friday. Tyler and Earl Sweatshirt literally called themselves the reincarnation of Slim Shady. There's a difference between influenced by and biting - someone doesn't have to sound like a clone of someone else to be influenced. But all the rappers I mentioned, their output would be a lot different if it weren't for Eminem, and they've said it themselves.

i get what you're trying to say but i don't think "Wordplay, word-bending to rhyme things" is an eminem thing.

i think i worded my point wrong but if you compare eminem's influence on rap is very minimal vs someone like kanye.

Is he a GOAT? - yes
Is he overrated AT THE MOMENT? -yes

he just has stans trying to uphold his legacy while his career has been declining. He's just like all the other mid 2000s rappers still making music right now. Objectively are they making good-great music, not necessarily, BUT is it enough for some of their fans? yes. And he just happens to have a muchhhh larger fanbase than 90% of rappers

*the first full album of Em's i got into was Recovery, but i had heard a lottt of his earlier hits, just not full albums, and i really liked Recovery, so i didn't understand why people said "wtf eminem sounds too mainstream, doesn't sound like himself, etc etc." but THEN i went back and listened to marshall mathers LP and holy chit that blew my mind, prob my fav Em album and CLEARRR change of sound. Back then you could tell he was making music because he felt he HAD to, like when you're an artist and you haven't told your story yet and got chit on your chest you got things to passionately speak on, but 10 years are you gonna have that same fire, naturally nah, but he prob likes the income and still likes the art. I still fux with recovery tho, that WAS when he largely changed his sound but it worked imo

Yeah , his album is getting alot of hype. The main reason being all the mumble rap makes him look like a verbal messiah. Lets be real he's no Kendrick, J.Cole, Eminem or HOV etc, but he is a breath of fresh air compared to alot of b.s of late. That being said I'm looking forward to Kanye's new album which he wisely postponed due to wayne and logic releasing this week. Logics album i'm sure will be insane, haven't listened but the kid has work ethic and lyrical ability. Lastly really look out for Kanye, he is hugely underated considering he literally ended Gangster rap after defeating 50cent 10 years ago. (Graduation vs Curtis, indicated by larger sales). Even mumble rappers try to emulate Kanye, he is the current bastion of rap and only comes second to Jayz as the most influential rapper alive. I'm out *******s.

I didn't say it was. The wordplay style Eminem uses in his rhymes is unique though. I don't know why you're arguing this point so hard. If other rappers publicly say they've been influenced by him, they know that much better than you.

If you want to say that Kanye influenced thesoundof other rappers more, I think that's a better argument. But using some 808s and rapping about your emotions is a lot more reproducable than lyrical chit that Eminem does, which is why I think we see more rappers come up with Kanye as a main influence. Most rappers just can't do what Eminem does.

logic's album was ok, it was alot better than everybody and bobby tarantino 2 though.

wu-tang forever, iconic, the return and everybody dies were my favorite tracks. the album was decent but holy fuk the songs were like 6 mins each. way too long imo

"Lyrics", "metaphors", and "wordplay" were already a thing before Eminem.

Real influence is Nas with Illmatic. That album changed the whole game, and in fact Eminem's first album (Infinite) was basically a straight copy of Nas' "style". Lets get real, Eminem's most unique features were the gimmick parts to his music: the over the top claims/humor, shock value, etc. That stuff WAS new, but it was too gimmicky to really influence anything, and its now seen as the majority of the crappy part of Eminem.

Someone like Andre 3000 is more influential than Eminem.

Nice strawman.

As far as the just the shock part being unique, did you stop listening to him after the SSLP or do bars just go right over your head? Eminem took what Rakim did in terms of flow and internal rhymes and took it even further, using unique rhyme schemes and rapping them with faster flow and irregular rhythm. He also varied pitch and speed in a way that had never really been seen before and Kendrick uses at times in his faster flows (especially when Kendrick switches between voices and personas).

Like I alluded to above, you don't see it much in other rappers (although some have shouted him out, which I also mentioned above) because they're just not talented enough to rhyme and flow like that. Kendrick and Joyner are two who are.
