I'm basically a tradie - I'm a project supervisor for my Dad's construction company but we run a small crew so I do the same work as the crew. I clear around $60k after taxes. Get bonuses every time we finish a job but I don't include those bc they vary wildly depending on contract size & how well I ran the crew (time it took, etc.).
Do people really struggle making $80k/yr? There isn't a thing in the world I want but can't have at my current salary and it's going to skyrocket when I take over the company in a few yrs.

The thing about the misc is yes, maybe you "know" someone who was a tradie making 300 k a year. But 1. Quality of life I'm sure was either pure **** or was a very unique circumstance. The misc tries to make it out to be that you'll be making serious money right away, it's bs. I know electricians making less than 20 an hour.

Made 150k in 7 months as a commercial fisherman without a high school education. No ceiling either once you start running boats that number can double and once you start owning them the sky is the limit.

I'm in a unique situation being my "trade" is highly skilled and we are one of maybe 3 companies in the area offering it (it's radio/wireless communication stuff) + it's a family company so I of course make more than I would elsewhere.

Meh, I work in the facilities and maintenance warehouse of a large company. $30/hr, should clear 72k this year, which is pretty darn good in Iowa. Would I like to make more? Yeah. Could I live on less? Yeah.

Although, I am sure there are some around here are inflating what they really make.

You never see people here say they work average jobs like a state job or autozone etc.

pay is irrelevant if costs aren't factored in. most people are too stupid to manage any amount of money, so they will experience the same degree of pain at any wage point. a guy making 250k/yr who has 275k/yr in obligations is still a slave obv
