Royce Gracie VS you in a bar or on a street:

He takes you down in 2 seconds, chokes you out cold in 1 more second (that’s how quick your lights go out in a choke unless you know how to defend it)

I thought the point was to never go to the ground in a real life scenario.
If there is a “buddy” Royce would obviously not pull guard and go for the choke. Probably head butt or elbow the “buddy” in a blink of an eye into a bloody unconscious mess, and then choke you out.

Sambo does NOT include strikes. Only Combat Sambo does. Sambo is basically poor man’s judo. Combat Sambo is poor man’s MMA.

MMA is the only serious answer to this thread. If MMA for some retarded reason isn’t allowed, then Combat Sambo is the obvious answer. Anyone saying otherwise is a moron, since any world champion boxer gets his **** kicked in by any half decent kickboxer, those fights took place many times in K1, you MUST, and this is important to grasp MUST strike with both hands and feet AND grapple if you want to stand the best chance in a fight VS someone good.

If this is the case then Krav Maga and Sambo should also not be allowed as they are MMA.

Muy thai

Amazing striking that can work from clinch with knees to prevent any takedown or tackle attempt.

IRL I chose jiu jitsu and love it. In a training sense it was terrible on my knees and head to get hit all the time. Just isn't reasonable for my health.

This.

Also not to chit all over anyone's martial art but something Ive noticed with every person from a Krav backround who comes to train at the MMA gym I train at generally has no clue what they're doing.

BRB cant defend a takedown/Doesnt know how to sprawl
BRB no idea how to grapple
BRB Bad head movement and striking defense
BRB bad striking in general

For an art that specializes in kicking someone in the dick they all seem to not be able to even land inside leg kicks well. Maybe it's just the Krav maga schools here, who knows.

How exactly do you grab someone who has superb footwork and was trained to have accurate lighting fast fists?

A D1 college wrestler could take a golden gloves champ down and literally fuk him, on the other hand the GG boxer could light him up before he even knows what hit him.

I'm primarily Muay Thai and boxing but I would choose wrestling in this scenario tbh.

Definitely wrestling because it works and is fun for me. Plus you can use it on a buddy if necessary without cracking his skull.

And they actually started MMA on a hard surface with no rules. Wrestlers dominated once they got involved. I think it's because it's a lot easier and safer to practice wrestling than striking arts.

People that think MMA/BJJ/UFC chit works in a street fight have always made me laugh.

brb in a bar fight clinching and getting a guy into a triangle choke on the dance floor. yea. good luck.

the best skill would be kick boxing. having the training discipline of boxing on top of the kicking ability with the ability to balance both > anything else. next would be regular boxing.

street fighting is about striking and getting out quickly. none of you are wrestling in a fight lol.

A world champion / heavily trained kick boxer would run through any MMA, wrestler, BJJ, etc in no time.

this argument always made me laugh. people SWEAR two things:

- a D1 wrestler knows how to ground & pound or submit once they get someone to the ground (they don't)

- boxers just become paralyzed on the ground after being taken down (they don't)

also...D1 wrestler is a college athlete. a golden gloves boxer is 16-18 years old. they would literally be fighting a child.

This was a popular opinion before several first UFCs showed clearly otherwise. As did earlier Gracie challenge matches. People who are good grapplers close the distance properly and it’s almost 100% impossible to KO them as they come in for that double or single leg takedown.

Now Roy Jones with a few years of kicking, kneeing and grappling training so he can at least sprawl to avoid a takedown, or have at least basic ideas of how to defend a gi choke, would be a different story.

This is what happened with Gracie challenge VS Benny The Jet Urgudez. When Gracies found out that Benny isn’t an idiot and is training grappling with a top grappler regularly, they suddenly no longer wanted the fight...

Fact is early MMA with no rules, and Gracie matches (no rules) showed that a grappler VS striker is a win for the grappler. And later MMA showed that one must be able to box, kick and grapple to be even better.

You assume that Royce Gracie doesn’t know what’s you posted above. He can knee, punch, kick, elbow and head butt. Is he as good at striking as professional good strikers? Of course not, but his grappling is much better than theirs, thus he wins.

VS multiple attackers Royce would obviously not pull guard (meaning hug one attacker at a time) to expose himself to attack from his buddies.

lol. I legit laughed out loud at you citing Royce fukking Gracie as your back up.

the gracie family literally transcended the game and invented a style that has carried over and will continue to carry over for the rest of time.

so yes. if a kick boxer runs into someone who is a next level transcendent talent that will completely change the life and face of MMA, they might lose.................

you aren't gracie. you will never be gracie. if you train wrestling for 1 year vs someone who trained boxing for 1 year and you faced off in a bar, you would be going to the hospital.

best case scenario for you is: you grapple him around the ankles and pin him on the ground and the fight is broken up in 10 seconds.

probable scenario for you is: you try all that cute amateur wrestling stuff, get knocked out in 3 seconds, and wake up in an ambulance.

Combat Sambo is a martial arts and combat sport.

It was created by mixing martial arts, to create a system of combat. It has a system of techniques and principles.

MMA is a ruleset:

People can have Boxing (Diaz brothers), Muay Thai (Anderson Silva), Karate (Wonderboy) as their stand up foundation.

And people can have Jiu Jitsu, Free Style Wrestling, Greco Roman Wrestling, or Catch wrestling as their grappling foundation.

There is no system of techniques or principles, because it's a ruleset. Any techniques or principles of any combat sport/martial art, can be used under the ruleset.

If you do more research into Sambo, you'll likely see the difference.

(I know very little about Krav Maga, so I won't comment on that.)

Calling MMA a martial art, is like calling K1 or Glory a marital art... Do you see how ridiculous that is?

Yep, grappler vs striker... My money is on the grappler.

Anyone who thinks otherwise has literally ignored years of evidence, via the first UFCs.

Submission wrestlers , Freestyle wrestlers, and Jiu Jitsu practioners used to regularly beat pure strikers. The second they got grabbed, they were phucked.

Ken Shamrock despite being trained in striking, used to rely on Submission wrestling to beat strikers.
