I grew up in a house where my dad made he type of money that a miscer would consider rich. But that experience (among other contributing factors) led me to be a person not particularly motivated by money.

With that said, my wife makes about $100k/yr and I make about half that. So it's not like we're hurting for money, but we're not rich.

But to answer the questionWhy am I not rich?Basically I chose to be a [person who works in a field that makes a difference in the world] because I'm much more suited for that than chasing dollars.

I haven't done a fraction of what it takes to be rich, though I was trying to buy real estate as a teenager before I lost my job. Back when you could buy apartments for the price of a used beamer. I might have a few hundred thousand in equity by now.

That was right before I went through depression and just lol @ accomplishing anything while depressed.

Because getting rich through hard work is extremely unlikely, and an almost sure way of ending up alone and miserable.

Comfortable (enough to eat, enough to sustain a hobby or two, a home, a yard, a nice pc, tv & sound system, maybe an ok car, money for a vacation every now and then) ftw. Would not trade the time i spend with my son for all the money in the world.

Getting rich is not so hard.

For example, study law, study hard, join a big law firm, become a partner.

You still need some talent and some luck, but hard work brings you a long way on these kind of career paths.

It even can be fulfilling. Infact you have to make it fullfilling or you won't be able to work hard enough and just burn out. It is like lifting, it is more rewarding to work hard and have sucess than simply consuming passively.

I have the capacity I just don't have the drive plus I'm very risk adverse. You have to take risks, of which can ruin you to make it generally speaking.

For now I'll slowly climb the corporate ladder and live comfortably/securely especially now that I have children.

Yes, there was a lot of stress and sleepless nights in the beginning. We were 1 day away from bankruptcy 3 times in the first year.
We made some mistakes along the way, everyone does, but almost 5 year later and our only regret is not starting sooner.
When we left our jobs we were both in our 40s and had a combined income of about 160K.
Last year we pulled in 1.9

I know im never gonna be super rich.

the super rich are those whose parents are already wealthy and they inherit and invest their parents wealth, or celebrities in any field, or a lucky entrepreneur.

my parents aren't wealthy and I'm not a celebrity.

but I make good money. purely on salary alone I'll be rich by most people's standards in about 10 years. and in my opinion 'rich' at 35 isn't bad from a guy who wasn't born in a wealthy household.

for me the annoying thing is waiting for that time and trying not to fuk up along the way
