Companies who treat their employees well are fine in my book of course. We actually did overpay our employees (compared to the market) when I was still in the business. But don‘t fool yourself into believing it‘s more than a business relationship. When the employee finds a job paying much more, he has every right to switch jobs too. I don‘t understand the emotional connection between an employee and a certain employer. What‘s much more important is that there‘s a healthy economy providing enough opportunity for employees. An environment only capitalism is able to provide.

You can still make great profit treating your employees right, who in turn give good customer service. Look at Chick-fil-A. They obviously could make way more paying their employees less and staying open on Sundays, but instead they take the high road. Now look at the shear numbers they get. But most corporations don't care about that. That's why the have sweat shops overseas paying as little as possible while selling their products at 1000% profit.
I do blame people who buy from Capitalistic corporations. I don't buy from Companies like EA and Activision because of their ways. How they treat employees, how they copy and paste games, etc.

I've always taken pride in doing a good job going back to stocking shelves in the cheese aisle of a grocery store when I was 15 and trying to make it look as nice as possible. In time you realize that hard work is typically rewarded with more work. Meanwhile the ball washers and the phonies who play the game move up because integrity just isn't something they place high value on.
Also, seems management will bend over backwards for the complainer or someone who's willing to protest or take it to a higher level/legal action. They don't give a **** about the good employee that just does work and never complains.

During the 1990's, there were so many solid jobs available due to the .com bubble along with a fresh generation of up and coming workers in Gen X'ers who rememebered their parents' materialism but knew nothing about career/work ethics who began job hopping. The one issue I have seen from a professional stand point is loyalty or should I say the lack there of. And that goes for both the employer and employee...Wasn't so long ago in the past it wasn't un heard of to see a guy work 20-30+ years and retire from the same company... he worked his a$$ off for them day in and day out and they (the company) took care of him. In doing so he (the employee) never went out looking for the next job that paid $.50 more an hour....
In todays society most companies view you as expendable regardless of position and the employees wont even bat an eye to just not show up the next day because they took a job paying more... I cant say that I blame either side for being that way... it just is the way it is. But because of this you see a lot of people do the absolute fkn minimum because there is no incentive otherwise.

Thus, the concept of loyalty collapsed on both ends of the employer/employee relationships, and now younger Gen X'ers, millenials, and Gen Z'ers are trying to cope in the chaotic environment that resulted. Combined with the ever-expanding demand for instant gratification (and enabling of such by the internet taking over nearly every aspect of life), and the issue has only gotten worse. Probably less than 5% of potential jobs out there these days end up being worth gutting out 30-40 years for.

My current job has certain metrics (completed contracts/purchase orders) for each month, and it doesn't really behoove you to go much above and beyond that, because you may shoot yourself in the foot and not have enough work to reasonably meet the goals in the next month(s).

Too many people ITT are obfuscating employee morale, productivity and value and I can't believe how this needs to be spelled out...
The "morale" employee says: Promote me, I'm "great at my job" and "a good company professional", whatever that means.
The "productive" employee says: Promote me, I'm "efficient and get an insane amount of work done in my contracted time".
The "value" employee says: Promote me, I continue to add money to the company.
Now, step back and look at the point of business. The point of a business is to make money.Who of the above employees adds money? The value-driven worker. BS that morale and productivity mean anything, pretty much the only thing people ITT have nailed. Want proof? Look at mostprofitablebusinesses and see how cold and ruthless those owners are. It's a numbers game, brahs.
And to those who say "Well come on, any owner is going to want good morale and productive employees": no chit, brah - what general isn't going to say he'll take more soldiers into battle?

so what's the verdict brahs?
is it worth busting your chops at work? or doing the bare minimum?
what if you have ambitions to rise up the ranks?
how else can you be promoted if you don't show value (which is a bad 'economic' bargain - at least in the short term)?
