Not saying this is the way I'd go, I'd buy a cheaper place with only $100k household income, but I could swing it comfortably based on the numbers I deal with right now

6k net assuming I need to pay for healthcare.
5k would be fine if health insurance premiums were paid for.
Wife and 3 kids.
I am happy with a 300k house in a low cost of living area in the middle of the woods though.

Believe it or not the biggest variables will be
- who youre dating or married to
- kids or no kids
Based on what ive seen if youre single anything over 70k gross youre gonna be fine. You really would have to define comfortable. One mans comfortable is a lambo while anothers is a porsche boxster.

The majority of humans on this planet will not lead a comfortable, stress free life without worrying about finances.

Lol @ the citycels in here saying 10k+ for comfortable living.
My fiance and I net about 5k and have 1k+ leftover after mortgage, car notes, savings and bills are accounted for every month, and we typically go out with friends at least once per week as well, we aren't just sitting at home all the time. That is plenty comfortable for me, and by next August we will be in the 7-8k net range between us.
