Hard question. When I was making half of what I am now I was living comfortably but to go back would put a squeeze on my lifestyle. I like to buy stuff.

I could probably be pretty comfortable with $6k, and that's for two people, a $500k house, and three pets

Depends. I'd try to pay my house off as quickly as possible, therefore living rent free.

I'll say $4k a month to me would be comfortable. Very little debt + All my living expenses would be about $1400, meaning $2600 left over a month. So I'd guess around $70k gross, maxed 401k + Insurance

Depends on if there are debt payments or not. I don‘t have any and we can comfortably live off about 5k, supporting two kids.

About $4k, but I dont have a mortgage nor children. Kind of messed up when $60k in San Diego is practically low income.

Even 100k gross..

500k mortgage is about 3k alone. Property taxes another 1k.

So you're spending 66% of your income on housing?

Property taxes here are more like $3,500 (annually) for a $500k house, but my mortgage payments are just a hair over $2,300/month

Not saying this is the way I'd go, I'd buy a cheaper place with only $100k household income, but I could swing it comfortably based on the numbers I deal with right now

We have a guy in town who’s uncle passed when he was still in his early 20’s . His uncle had no kids to inherit his money ,so thinking ahead his uncle willed it to him in a trust fund that paid 30k a month for the rest of his life , but with one catch . His nephew had to provide proof that he was working 40 hours a week or he didn’t get the money that pay period .
Probably gets it regardless at 60 , not sure .
But I thought that was a great idea , as a lot of young people would have been found dead in a ditch from that kind of income .
We have no inheritance tax in Canada , so that was $1000 a day tax free

I don’t know how people do it ,as I’m single and gross a little over a 100K a year , and don’t have a lot of extra cash.
Going to suck being unemployed soon and living on 47k gross .
Canada is one hell of an expensive place to live though . Taxes are atrocious, whether it’s income, fuel, alcohol etc

I net maybe $7-8k, and my life is pretty comfortable. I don't need for anything, and my current long term goal in life is to make it so I can net a similar amount without having to go to work each day.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

I’m in a low COL state. So I could probably be comfortable with only $2k if living by myself. It’d cut going out and stuff to once or twice a month and I wouldn’t get to save that much. But if we’re talking about including stuff like savings and retirement then $3.5-4k would be sufficient I’d say.
