Okay son. Next time you want to fly dont complain when you dont have any options.

This COVID malarky is seriously affecting airlines. They can go bankrupt. They arent charities either. Everyone with 2 braincells knows this virus will blow over in a few months. Why take the loss of potentially going bust?

The services they provide are necessary for the country to function. And airlines provide 10 million related jobs in America.

You're delusional if you believe the US government is going to allow 10 million people to lose their jobs with the snap of a finger and suspend all commercial air travel indefinitely... Until some other company can get up and running.

This isn't even about the companies themselves or the failure to manage their money properly. Its about the fall-out if they fail. The government will bail them out.

He's going to take a train to Europe, brah. He's got it all figured out.

I think the problem people are having with the ideal of a bailout is the LAST time the government offered a bailout (Big banks after the 2008 financial crisis), the first thing those *******s did was payout MILLIONS of dollars in bonuses to the C-Level execs while simultaneously laying off thousands of lower tier people. One of the most disgusting things i witnessed in my adult life.

you make it seem like these privately held companies are forcefully having all their flights cancelled and are on the brink of bankruptcy loool.

"such high overhead man, operating at a loss bro" 1) i think you guys mean operating costs and not overhead, 2) look up the sec filings and tell me DAL's pretax earnings for the past 5 years. such loss much "overhead" lmao.

Delta is sitting at a 4% cancellation rate on flights today... my god you guys will eat dog**** up with a spoon.

I feel like the lol here is your lack of basic knowledge. 4% cancellations mean they're running 96% of their flights almost empty. This is the loss I literally just explained to you, and you tried to use it as a point FOR your argument. Yes, I meant operating costs AND overhead. Once again, you're proving your own lack of knowledge here.

so 4% of delta flights being cancelled = 96% of their flights are almost empty? youre going to have to explain that one to me Mr. Industry Expert..

if that is what you meant, tell me what DALs operating and overhead expenses were for 2019 lol, also tell me what their gross revenue and pretax earnings were bro.

Then it shouldn't be a private company, but with unfettered access to Uncle Sam's piggy bank whenever revenues dip. That isn't capitalism.

Lmao at the misc. It doesn't really matter who he is... what's relevant is the point he made. You just compared ****ing starbucks to the airline industry. One is an absolute necessity... the other has about a dozen substitutes... but what was basic economics.

How did the banks start it when lenders were pressured by govt to lend to lower income demographic??? Community reinvestment act anyone? Basically if some broke person came into the bank and asked for a mortgage it would be considered descrimination to not give them the mortgage......

No, they dont. First, they give huge bonuses for the people at the top. Whatever they reinvest they pass onto customers to offset those costs.

Brother that wasn't a D vs R thing. Both establishment Ds and Rs wanted the bailout to happen. Ron Paul, pbuh, was the only one speaking out against it.

Bush signed the bill. And delta paid out $1.6 billion to 90,000 employees (about $17.k a pop).

500 round trip to europe? Thats cheap af bro when did you go?

I go every summer and i pay around 1.3k cad to rome.

Either way though, since it was mentioned a few times, airlines make most of their $$ from first classes tickets not from the 90$ peasant seat.

Actually, you are the idiot because OBAMA signed off on it. 17k lmaoooo when executives get 50 million bonuses and dont get laid off like so many workers did. That's not even mentioning his bailout of the auto industry.
