I'm a province where there's been **** all cases in the last week, why the hesitation to reopen gyms?

Instead people are putting a couch in the room and saying I have no place for a gym.
what is more important? sitting on your fat ass watching TV eating sour cream and onion chips and fruit punch Rockstars or actually working out and keeping the body living in a healthy manner?
If theres no room make room. If theres only 1 room than thats your fault for not having more space but what should go in there first? For most people this mean just flipping the switch in their mind on what is a priority.
if youre below that poverty line and dont even have a full kitchen and bathroom and other stuff (studio 1 room) or below thats outside of the scope, but for anyone in a reasonable space its often doable. All it takes is a small area against a wall and something to hold a barbell.
The price it costs to buy some used stuff is nothing against yearly gym fees and it saves you money anyway.

Pretty sure you’ve never stepped in a gym to know what’s in one.
Sorry I can’t maintain my god like physique with just a power rack that fits in the space of a couch

Lol at thinking gyms are disgusting places. Go there every day and haven’t been sick (even the common cold) in over 4 years now.
Keep coping with your home gym.
If gyms are disgusting germ infested places, all you did is turned your house into one.
All that sweat everywhere. That’s groce man. In b4 it’s ok cause it’s your sweat.
I don’t know about you but I don’t sweat in my place.
Edit
I think the last sentence nails it. Turns out you’re the one who is too poor to afford gym memberships, not me that’s too poor to afford a home gym. Lmao
"One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."

Gyms in northern Utah are opening from what I've heard. Unfortunately it's a bit farther north than where I'm based

Its a room of filled with dirty sweaty people secreting filth around other people who's immune system is weakened (naturally from working out), and its like a wet market for humans.
Its no edgy its just logical. I for one have a whole room in the house dedicated to my gym equipment.
You seem like youre coping hard right now.

Plus gyms are equipped to sanitize regularly. Much more so than most businesses.

there is a reason the guidelines are called social distancing and why the government recommended the public wear masks. you can catch the virus through the air. you are around tons of potential vectors in the gym and you think you’ll be perfectly fine just wiping down your handles and dumbbells. people are exhaling faster and harder and lots of gyms operate in small spaces. the major criteria for gyms to follow when reopening is strict social distancing. i don’t believe gyms will be able to enforce distancing.
stop acting as if gyms are low risk for this virus, one that can be airborne and highly contagious. its just common sense the majority of them are not.

We’re in no way ready for chit to open up yet. FFS we just had like 7000+ deaths in the last two days, and we still can’t get testing done on regular people. I don’t want to walk around a bunch of potentially asymptomatic people in an LA fitness.

It's impossible to do social distancing in a gym. Even if you remove 2/3 of the cardio equipment the weight room would still be jammed and group exercise wouldn't be allowed. Plus, you have members - you can't do slow entry into a gym and have capacity where they don't let people enter.
My PT studio might be able to do it because we can have limited trainers and clients at one time, but a commercial gym forget about it. Unless you want it closed again within a week because someone who works there/works out there tests positive.

I'd love it if they opened back up. I'd prob stick to work gym for a while and just supplement at home before going back to regular gym. Can't imagine there is a way to really social distance at the reg gym, especially right after they reopen and people are flocking to them.

1. It's up to the governors as to opening back up, America is not a dictatorship
2. If you go to a gym any time soon, I can almost guarantee you'll end up getting sick sooner than later having seen how contagious this infection is first hand
Infection rate is currently increasing, stay away from the public as much as possible for now.

There is no way gyms will open until at least June.
Paces like hair salon and beauty things might open since they can mandate how many people are in the building, with a gym it's come as you like.

also it's stupid af to put this in phase one. how the hell are gyms supposed to adhere to strict social distancing? easy to do when i go to the gym between 5-6 am, but not in the later mornings and definitely not the late afternoon/evenings. no one will be distanced.

I think the new goal for a lot of ppl during this pandemic is to try and invest in a living space were you're able to setup a home gym.
Thank God, before this pandemic I had purchased a home that came with 20x25 shed that I had turned into my on personal home workout space.
Prior to this I was renting in a condo and slept in the living room while I turned the only 1 bedroom into a small workout space.
Prior to this I was living with my parents, turned my bedroom into a small workout room which I slept in.
Mind you, I always had other clubs/gyms I was also attending to but if gains or training are your priority, put yourself in a position were you are able to have your own workout space as well for back up and supplementary
