IMO best living situation is by yourself in your own house.
Also it effects how long your kids may have to spend with your parents (their grandparents). And it could set you up to have less in common with their friends' parents if there is a decade or better age difference.

Even if none of that was important (how it effects other relationships) there is how it effects your relationship with your kids. It's nice to think that you will easily live to age 80, but we just don't know. There are stages to the parent/child relationship:

- baby/toddler years: dependent, mostly one way communication

- early school years: mostly nice IMO, more independent but still okay with spending time with parents

- puberty/early teens: sometimes still want to be children, sometimes want be more separate/adult + more engaged with peers/less time for mom & dad + hormones + "mean girls"/cliques + puppy love/first BF or GF

- late teens/early adulthood: may be financially dependent, but want a lot of independence otherwise; likely college/career training/first jobs; busy starting their own lives; may ask for help sometimes

- mid-twenties to roughly mid- thirties: LTR/marriage/kids etc.; more respect for parents but less time, though you may become a grandparent sometime after which you get >>>

- mature parent/child relationship: for most I think this starts when you have children of your own, start to really get how gray things can be, how much you still don't know, and if your parents were/are decent also get an appreciation of what life may have been like from their side loving you and raising you; somewhere in here your parents start to treat you as an equal level of adult

So while there are no guarantees on either side the younger you are when you have your children the better your odds are of having a richer relationship and not exiting their lives when they are really not ready to be without you.
