Pitbulls and Tosa Inus have been bred for very specific characteristics desirable to dogfighting over a significant period of time i.e. endurance for a typical dog fight duration (30+ minutes) + aggression + the ability to maintain their bite despite massive injuries. The latter is known as the trait of 'gameness' that is a rather old concept.

You can't remove generations of selective breeding out of these dogs through 'good ownership'. There will be a trigger that sets your friend's dog off, it just hasn't been discovered yet.

Any other dog that are aggressive by reputation can be tamed (i.e. Presa Canarios, Brazilian Mastiff, Tibetan Mastiff, Dogo Argentinos, Bully Kuttas, Australian pig dogs etc)

This is false. Watch youtube vids on Cesar Milan. He's had two pits and both were non violent and extremely smart. Its mostly the owner, not the dog.

Cesar Milan is a dog expert. The guy trained a group of dogs to fetch water and the garden hose for him in 2 weeks time when he first jumped the border and got a job as a car washer. Meanwhile your own dog thinks ur a *******.

if pitbulls are so innocent and sweet, why do people always choose them to turn them vicious? why not one of the other 100 breeds? its always pitbulls.

and lol @ the people saying they would stab/kick the pitts. All it will do is enrage them. you cant stop them without a bullet, or choking one out. but with 3 you would definitely need a gun. u can cut their legs off, stab them over and over, but they will not let go until dead. they cannot be controlled once they get lock jaw

Jesus this is so sad. Reps to the owner for trying until his last breath to stop them. Negs to the owner for having them off leash and not being able to control them. I feel bad for everyone in this video. I saw it earlier today and purposely didn’t watch. Pissed I did before bed.

I own a pitbull. She is a crazy mofo and also the most loving dog I’ve ever encountered. It’s their extreme emotions that make people love them so much. They are almost human like with their compassion. They can love hard. The problem is people underestimate their physical ability and temperament. They think because they are lap dogs with them at home that they won’t be aggressive. My dog is always collared with an e collar in public. I rarely have to use it but if she gets into a zone of aggression I snap her out immediately.

This is the “extreme” pitbull view that I have to stand up against. The same way I would stand up to the other extreme that claims they are all killers.

They have been bread to do a job. In the last so many years they have been bread to be animal aggressive. Not every bloodline but many of the ones you find at a shelter have.

Just like other dogs have instincts to do other things like hunt vermin or heard cattle.

We wouldn’t deny that a sheep herding dog likes to chase sheep, right? Or that bloodhounds like to chase fox? Or that pointers help hunters?

By denying their nature we actually make it harder for them to have safe and sound homes and be safe dogs.

If you care about pittbulls you’ll be honest with yourself about their nature. These dog people are saying what they say to combat another extreme imo. And denying the truths is just as dangerous.

Edit: I want to add. He is basically saying the same thing I’m saying without saying it. Certain breeds need owners that can control them. There’s many others that could be just as deadly and in the news. It just so happens Pitts are very popular these days so there’s a lot of them.

Edit edit: I rewatched the Caesar video. And they do point out the recent breeding tactics. They point out their total lack of pain tolerance and backing down in a fight. Another issue when something does happen.

I don't currently own a dog but for some odd reason I just started watching a bunch of Cesar Milan vids and some of the stuff he talks about makes total sense. My dog hated me and I understand why. I recommend getting some of his books. Whenever I conduct research, I always check to see if that person wrote a book because they usually put down everything they know in writing. So you don't have to live near him to pick his brains.

There is no "controlling them". They should be in zoos and wild preserves, not out on the street.
