Similar experience. High academic expectations and learning being "cool" within my social circle. You got made fun of if you weren't in AP classes, etc. which also meant you were in academic classes with the kids at your shul.
It’s not our fault so many other people never gave a chit about their educations and then start blaming us when their lives inevitably go down in flames, lol.
Yeah, the ********ers who attended the School of Hard Knocks seem to have lots of interesting opinions about where their lives went wrong.

Cause before they brought in their religion thru scripture they were slaves.

They emancipated themselves thru the name of their own created God.

They brought in monotheism so well, it stemmed two major religions today.

There's definitely an emphasis on education and being successful. Depending on your level of observance, "education" can mean just studying torah. Most orthodox kids grow up "studying" torah daily. It's a central part of their existence.

Obviously they also promote western education too, college, grad school etc, for the sake of professional success. Nothing makes my Bubby happier than talking about "her son the doctor."

For my family, at least, there are strong survival instincts from their history in Europe before coming to the states. My grandparents were all Holocaust survivors and my parents were both born in Eastern Europe after the war in communist countries. Both prior generations grew up being very frugal and overly guarded and that same "survival" mentality exists today.

A lot of Jews become wealthy through frugality, not necessarily making bank every year. My grandparents came over in the 70s with $9k to their names, worked and saved for years, bought a property, bought another - now almost 50 years since they came over my grandma is a millionaire.

Genetics/sexual selection, nepotism, and culture that values education (they do this because they are genetically intelligent).

Both christians and jews would place the smartest males in the religous hierarchy. The difference was that the rabbi's were not celibate and were encouraged to have tons of kids.

Your examiner will be a guy named O'Donnoughertihanaghan and if he remembers your grandfather from the St. Patrick's Day parade in 1960, you will pass.
