Grocery store shelves are missing a lot of products they used to carry. Selection seems very limited now in certain categories (random chit like canned tomatoes, spices, certain over the counter medicines).
Food prices are going up. Almost everything has increased in price by 10-15% or more. Milk, meat, packaged products most notably. Produce seems ok. No more killer deals and sales.
At my work (beverage company), both aluminum and plastic supply chain issues are fukking up our production. At my warehouse on any given night we have 10% out of stocks. This is pretty freaking high.
I'm seeing a lot of bad signs right now for the economy that don't appear to be taken very seriously. Every "good" piece of news is hopped on, every worrying thing is hand waved or buried or simply not discussed. It feels like January/February of the Corona Virus when certain people were sounding the alarm. I remember those times, the videos, the stories, the tweets. Many people thought this was going to peter out and we'd be fine. 15 cases in March, it'll go away like a miracle. LOL. Nope. I'm not a doomer or a panic-cel, and regardless where you sit on how "bad" COVID is, the raw numbers peg this as worse than SARS, H1N1, and any flu pandemic in recent history. And here we are. Once again I feel like we're bearing down on another iceberg, and yet the band is playing and everyone is acting like chit's gonna be fine. I don't know, chit feels too calm, too hunky dory for as much as I've been reading/experiencing.

Meat has skyrocketed in price. Fruit hasn't been too bad, but vegetable prices have risen quite a bit.

All this economic damage is depressing. But I swear, it almost makes you think that this "plandemic" was engineered to crash the global economy. Although-I've heard that if you think that, you're a "conspiracy theorist".

I'll take it as not sarcasm, because I actually heard on the radio an issue dentists are dealing with-customers losing insurance because they've lost their jobs. Chit still needs to be taken care of, so the dentist has to present cheaper options. That means less and less dollars changing hands, contracting economy. The kicker is much of the economic woes right now are not due to some financial issue, but are entirely artificial-companies that would otherwise be kicking ass are being fukked by their supply lines AND customers that are also being boned by their own lockdown issues. Its a self perpetuating problem, I can see this spiraling out of control. That dentist might have to lay off a hygienist, because his customers are being laid off, and that hygienist isn't gonna be able to afford that new heater, and those tradies are gonna have fewer jobs and buy less monster.....

We were going to have supply chain issues even if we did not do a lock down here in the US. The shut downs in China were absolutely going to affect availability of a lot of products (and components to manufacture products) here since so many of our consumer goods are produced there. PPE and pharmaceuticals were going to be insufficient for global demand and the US produces very little of either domestically.

The disturbing thing is none of this is a result of some economic issue, it's all artificial. Everybody SHOULD be fine, but throw a wrench in the system and it all comes crashing down.

ETA: One of the biggest hits I don't see reversing is the move toward more WFH and less use of office space. Saves the company paying for offices money. Wrecks the owners of office buildings, people that work providing maintenance for office buildings, cafes and restaurants that serve lunches to office workers, and could even reduce clothing purchases and car purchases.

If a private entity had the same track record on responding to events they would be bankrupt and/ or in jail. The government seem to do it time after time and walk away with a tax payer funded retirement

No debt crew. Also you guys should be growing your own food. Get into contact with local farmers, people at farmers markets. Help them out on weekends for food/milk. srs.
Here's my setup. Start prepping boys. Even if it is just in a few things like food, guns/ammo, water, essentials. Play it safe. Don't be like the people rushing to the store when a hurricane is coming in 48 hours and nothing is left but empty shelves and chaos.

They just mentioned on my local news that bars/restaurants around the area are gonna be shut down permanently. They mentiomed that they estimated 70% but that seemed ridiculous

Op, you seem to be catastrophizing the situation.
In the short term it is possible it could get serious in the West this winter. A lot of grannies and grandpas could die.
Now what do you think the economy will look like next year when a million old people die and leave all their boomer money to the kids and grandkids?
It's going to be PS5's for everyone and a chit load of people opening new businesses with grandmas inheritance.
There are so many more variables than just tinned tomatoes, op.
The only thing i'm concerned about is inflation.

Kid just died near me who was wasting away from cancer because his parents didn’t have medical insurance and were too scared to take him in to get checked out. Teachers would have picked up on it for sure and alerted child services.
There’s countless kids with rotting teeth, malnourished, wearing soiled clothes, not even taking into consideration direct physical and sexual abuse not being picked up on. Relapse rates are through the roof as well only compounding the problem. Party drugs are way down, sure, but meth, heroine, alcohol, etc. are way up.
It’s a sad fact as well that school meals are for some the only guaranteed decent food these kids get. With higher unemployment and less grey/black market work available, plenty of kids going underfed.
It’s not a popular opinion, but the vast majority of people that actually die are either incredibly old or very unhealthy and already have a fairly low quality of life (usually some combination of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hyper tension, etc.) and are slowly out the door anyways. It’s unfortunate, but I mean epidemics happen, let the weak die.

There SHOULD be a lag...in the US, most things are pretty much open...far from lockdown status.
Most asian countries should be SLIGHTLY ahead of us...but there will need to be a ramp up and fulfill backlogs before supply catches up...but it should already be in effect
