You would have to take that bear 1000 miles away. Bears return. We have a male bear in town that is tagged. He was removed over 100 miles away and has returned every year for 17 years. They finally stopped trying to move him.

Bear are not tough to kill. A 243 will do it. Their vitals are just a bit further back than most critters.

That said, any of the .30 cals will do the trick, but its tough to bet against a 30-06

Negging for an alternate opinion seems silly.

It is actually illegal for me to transport a bear. I have tried to get certified to tranquilize them, but Natural Resources has no interest.

They are cute, and I like watching them at times. I agree he is hungry, and cant really help him self. The line is crossed when a) human property is being damaged or b), the bear is threatening a human life.

My take is that sound wildlife management takes precedence over individual animals. If one is a problem, removing it has no effect ecologically. Its when numbers get low we need to look at how we are managing these animals so that we continue to have them around for my kids to enjoy, and yes maybe even hunt if there can be a sustainable harvest.

A far bit better than the old illegal foothold traps.

They are a thick cable with a rubber sheath. Bears don't seem to fight hard,. Biologists use them for catch and release, so they do very little damage if any.

Like having a padded handcuff on. Probably not overly comfortable, but far from really painful.

Also with the direct to cell phone trail cams I know a critter is caught ten seconds after the critter knows.

What did you snare? Coyote? Rabbit?

That doesn’t sound bad at all, and I did wonder how much the bear would fight it. I was imagining some sort of cable, but assumed there would be a more humane way to do it.

Yeah I snared rabbits, but also used ferrets with purse and long nets.

Its busy, but can be fun.

Nuisance animal control is not huge money, but $500 here and $1000 there can add up over a season as a side gig.

Its a small price to pay if a couple beaver are intent on destroying your shore dock or trying to clear cut your million dollar island.

I live in the mountains myself. There have been a few black bears sighted at the elementary school near here causing a slight panic. I've never had a problem with bears. Mostly just the skunks, those little fukers, digging up my property to eat worms.

*Fart in the gym and blame rotten smell on faulty ventilation crew*
*Fart at home and blame it on the dog crew*

*Drive 2 minutes in the summer and back of shirt gets completely wet crew*
*Coffee black as midnight on a moonless night crew*
