Being free and able to roam the universe with advanced technology: **** yeah i'll take immortality any day.

That's something who has a very narrow-minded perspective would say. Sure, I guess that would hold up if you were to be stuck on Earth in current society, and with our current technology. But the posibilities for human created tech are literally endless. Roaming the universe with advanced spaceships. Visiting advanced civilizations. Witnessing a supernova happen. Just a few examples.

Not seeing your young face/body get ravaged by time. Being young forever. Falling in love over and over and over. It's not that hard to imagine a sweet eternal way of life.

Or trapped for eternity under landslide or floating in near infinite space. No I think the option to end it all is the best compromise. There's a lot of naivety when it comes to immortality. There's a reason why even Stars have their time. There are far worse things than eternal death. Eternal death is only a frightening reality while you're alive.

No-one in this thread has a choice in the matter. If you're religious then you have a mechanism already in place, the rest have to feign ignorance and keep distracted with the regiment of life - in the end life is about distracting humans from the stark reality that they are just a brief moment in time.

If everyone even remotely could contemplate how final infinite non-existence is the world would be in utter chaos. Eternity is just a word, the reality is far worse. The closest I have come to understanding the concept is when I get a quick jab of needles through-out my body; then I turn my brain off before I do something silly like abstract identification.

I am not trying to sound smart but it truly is an expressionless feeling when you think how at no point in time you will never come back. How time is linear when you don't exist. All the billions of years before you death occurred in a single point from your non-perspective.

When you die, everything will occur instantly, time will be linear. 1 billion years after your death is the same in relation to eternity as 10000 trillion years. There is no amount that can be mathematically expressed or added to bring you closer than any other point. You will NEVER return to your previous state. Your only chance is brain imprinting, but a clone is still not the original.

There's a reason why I can sink into a sort of melancholy when I watch a good science documentary. Otherwise I have to keep distracted and just hope one day I die in my sleep - because anticipation of your death would be the worst moment in your/my/ life.
