Complete scam of an industry. Closing costs lmao.

Should be just paying a lawyer to hash out contracts and work with bank directly for the mortage. That's not worth upwards of 10 to 20k that a realtor gets
Bang on.

The funny thing is, the actual realtor makes barely half of the actual commission. The brokers are the ones laughing all the way to the bank because they take 35% of agent commissions for things like office overhead, paperwork, providing an office, etc. And basically do nothing but sit in their office and take on the fattest deals so they don't have to pay out their employees. It's like a pyramid scheme.

I once offered a realtor $100 an hour for his time and he laughed in my face. And it is a zero barrier to entry industry where 10% of the people make 90% of the money.

the other side of this coin is mechanical watches. the swiss have done a *masterful* job of marketing to men a product that is inferior and obsolete in every way and their business model is almost exactly like diamonds. create the illusion of value and control the supply chain. I'm sure there are a few collectors who actually believe the BS that is trotted out about appreciating the engineering/craftsmanship, etc. but 90% are just buying a brand for status and have a piece of jewelry that needs maintenance and can break.

Furthermore, the raised price by the delivery fee automatically increases the amount you are expected to tip driver based on percentage. Last, but not first, it's actually significantly *cheaper* for a company to send a delivery driver out to you (assuming the expect the delivery driver to provide their own car for work) than to have you dine in at their establishment.

Basically, the "delivery fee" is a big "fuk you" extra charge, for no other reasoj than "just because". Not only that, theybare completely screwing their drivers over in the process. That's $2-$4 more that the person ordering might have given the driver. But noooo, they just have to screw everyone besides themselves as hard as possible.

Delivery fees are the ultimate, and final cuck. Think about it logically.

Delivery fees are not really a scam, they were mostly instituted when gas pricing shot up to like $4 per gallon and it wasn't really economical for companies to do free delivery anymore. With UberEats and Doordash, there's clearly a market for delivery, so it's something people are willing to pay for. I'm a guy who orders delivery maybe 2 times per year nowadays, but I definitely like having it as an option.

I will say there is some deception in pricing, and a $3 delivery fee is typically less than the actual cost to get pizza to you. That's why they try to incentivize carryout at these pizza places nowadays, and so you're really paying like $7-8 for delivery from Dominos instead of the $3.75.

Well Domino's doesn't use the delivery services, but they just have an always running pick up special of $5.99 large one topping or $7.99 large 3 topping. You can't get these same deals for delivery, and in reality the coupon for delivery would be something like 2 Large 1 Topping for $17.99.

So the difference between pick up pricing and delivery pricing is $6 if you buy two pizzas, then add the $3.75 delivery fee, so you're really paying a cost of $10 for delivery(without including tip). Basically what Dominos did is because they already had the delivery mechanisms in place, instead of paying a 3rd party delivery service then kept all of that revenue in house. And that's why their stock has been skyrocketing for the last 9 months.

Selling change management work. You're basically a well compensated scapegoat.

- Join troubled company with promises of a turnaround

- Hold meetings with buzzword filled powerpoints on modern business practices to entrenched boomers who will never retire or better yet, companies that never developed strategy to match their size

- RIF the unchangeables and those whose leaders refuse to performance manage out and be the one to blame for layoffs

- Get "forced out" by hero new leader

- Fly business to vacation home with accumulated points from your months-long Startwood stay

Example: I declined the insurance, got rear ended. Had about $500 worth of damage. Because I hadnt taken the insurance the car rental kept the hold that they put against your credit card and charged me for the balance.

So I paid it. Than they told me I can put in a claim with my insurance company. If I had put in the claim I still would have had to pay the deductible ($500) and they probably would have raised the rates.

You take the insurance - anything happens? You hand them the keys and walk away. Its their problem.

Used to go on uber eats when I was hungover.

Brb $10 burrito
Brb ok not bad
Brb $5 fee for “small order”
Brb $15 burrito before tip

So $10 burrito is really $18, not going to punish the driver.

Add to cart, see all of the extra fees, close app and rot

Edit:

Brb order from uber eats
Brb driver picks up food and has 2 other orders to drop off before yours
Brb right down the street but gets to your house 45 minutes later

You are wrong. period.

Delivery has always been deeply undervalued. Meaning that delivering to some rich guy or some mom with 3 kids who has to put all her kids into the car....is a much different experience for them to goto the restaurant and pick up their food vs. just paying some $$ amount to have it delivered. That is why delivery services in general are so popular.

It used to be these folks would be getting their stuff delivered for almost free (in regards to the time they saved). Of course he still is, relatively speaking, however the balance has been tipped slightly against them.

btw: of course if you are single incel miscer...it makes no sense to NOT PICKUP your own stuff but that isn't really who these businesses are catered to. I mean Jeff Bezos didn't get rich not considering these factors.

Yeah, I've been known to use uber eats and the like when drunk though. Drunken munchies + lowered inhibition.

It is a real rip off. Especially the ones having a processing fee on top of the delivery fee and tip.

At any rate - didn't read the whole thread, but saw some other really good examples mentioned. The wedding industry for sure.

A few years ago in Australia, someone wrote an article in our flagship newspaper that the reason entitled millennials couldn’t afford a house in Sydney is because they spend too much money on smashed avocados on toast.

Millennials went bananas. Turns out, their feelings are hurt very easily.

I think that’s what this poster was referencing.
