What you think of my house? my own design. Built the whole thing, my wife and I.

Clear fir t and g, california gold tile, and metal clad wood exterior windows. 10' ceilings, and counter tops are 100 year old pine rafters and flood coat epoxy. I made the cabinets, but no pics. Floors are rustic maple. Even made the coffee table lol.

Still needs some trim around the pocket doors in this pic lol.

Bout a mile and a bit from nearest road through the bush. I have a nice walking path.

land is crown, so a bajillion acres. Small bits of private here and there. Closest is seasonal cottage a mile or so away. Maybe a bit less.

That is awesome dude! I just put new windows in on my cabin in the woods. Working on finishing up the deck this week. Moving in there full-time on Nov 1st. Ready to leave the suburban life permanently. Mines on a small private “island”. So people have to call before showing up hehe

Yeah, it's hard to get the low heat output with any kind of burn time. Regency and Napoleon are great. We make the Englander stoves, in Canada we brand them as Timber Ridge. Since we sell to big boxes and hardware chains we have to make them affordable, but honestly they're great stoves with a good reputation.

lol what, how is it useless nowadays or ever? Humans have been living/working/praying/doing any human activity in built space since the dawn of time. How on earth are people not needing built spaces anymore? While technology has made the practice easier we're far far far far away from AI architects. It's very easy to find work/clients as an architect as long as you're not a complete retard. All the architects I know and I know lots in many countires are always busy doing something

Not a park, so no parks Canada involvement, The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry took care of the permit process, and Conservation Officers look after enforcement. I talked with my CO yesterday and told him to stop by some day when he's out on the sled and sees smoke coming from the chimney.


Rules are only my wife and I can sleep there ( or immediate family)
I cant use it for any other commercial purpose (ie, renting it out)
Its mine so long as I trap the line.
I can hunt, fish, pick berries, etc while staying there without issue.

Because buildings don't build themselves, dumbass. It was mind-blowing looking at the architecture curriculum and how little math and physics there are... my college roommate was an architecture major and his projects consisted of him gluing wooden sticks together LOL. They're glorified doodlers...if you do not understand calculus and physics, along with fluid dynamics and material science... I am not sure what use you are. Every engineer I know that has hard to work with an architect has said they're useless.

How do you season your sausage? I have a LEM #12 3/4 hp grinder and the sausage attachments, so I need to get it figured out.

The current architects we are using are very good artists, but when ti comes to building knowledge and putting it into practice they fail badly.

they basically do a design, send it to the engineers who overbuild the ever loving fuk out of it, then send the architecturals and the engineered plans to us. Most of the time they dont coincide either.

End of the day tho, we create some cool stuff. I would share some photos of the one we are on currently, but as with most of our clients, there is a zero photography privacy rule. Among others we build for the third (or fourth, or fiftth, depending) wealthiest canadian family and they have pretty strict privacy rules.

I don't understand what the appeal is of living out in the woods. I'd be worried all the time of intruders/murderers/psychopaths etc.
