I love the idea of hunting or catching what you want to eat and how sustainably you can do so. Unfortunately, I'm too much of a pussy to do it. I seriously doubt I'd ever be able to shoot a deer, for example. I felt bad fishing (lol). I'm more of a rescue/rehabilitate type of guy. I've done lots of that and plan on doing more of it in the future, which is why I want a small farm. Would definitely never be able to cull anything. I have hens and, even if they stop laying, I'd just keep them as pets and feed them treats by hand daily.

Mirin' fish catch. I went ice fishing once and 'caught' a walleye and I remember it being a cool experience. Delicious meat too.
Walleye is great. Bear too. Has a sweet taste, but my wife doesn't seem to like it lol

I try and eat what I can. Some furbearers have some interesting parasites tho....

I am actually in talks with a semi famous wild game restaurant to see about supplying them with beaver meat.

I can't say the name, but a certain Podcaster has mentioned the restaurant before.

I am not a farmer. Toughest thing I have ever done was to off a bunch of roosters a buddy was getting rid of.

Felt odd and weird.

Best way to describe it is as I heard on the movie Happy People, Life on the Taiga.. (watch it if you haven't)

Out here the animals know I am no good, that I am to be avoided. But imagine raising a cow from birth. Feeding it, caring for it...

And then one day instead of an apple or pat on the head, instead it gets a bullet.

Seems like betrayal.

I just felt so weird with these roosters...lol

I imagine there are more that support his viewpoint than are posting itt.

With so many living urban it only makes sense.

No, regular black bear. The one pictured was going through the walls of houses and eating everything inside.

Costing people thousands.

Sun bears are Asian.

I get lots of nuisance calls where the bear is not actually a problem.

This one was too far habituated to equate people with food.

Love fishing and used to hunt a lot. Wife doesn’t like guns so I haven’t hunted in years but we do fish every now and then. Used to hunt wild boar, wild Turkey, some deer on the past. She has slowly started to change her mind about hunting though since she thinks it’s more humane that feedlots etc. Hopefully soon. Fished off the coast many times, usually everything from pompano to grouper and tons of snapper. Flounder as well when in season.

That smoked fish looks tasty af.

I actually have one. Bought it a couple of years ago and started practicing. Since moving back to Fl, I haven’t used it. We had an acre in woods in NC but now on water, nice house here but only 1/4 and only palm trees.

Key West is fun. Drinks, snorkeling for us when we go.

Pompano in salt put up a hell of a fight.

Growing up I have been on some shark hunts. Big harpoon size poles on the boats. Just unreal.

Not even sure if they are legal now.

Any suggestions for bait/tips for lake trout in the summer months? I was canoeing and fishing in some lakes around Agawa/Lake Superior PP last summer but struck out on fish. Going back this summer and maybe fall as well.

Sure, while spoons are a go to, try vertical jigging a four inch berkeley gulp minnow with a 1/2 ounce jighead in deep water, off points or underwater humps. The gulp minnow needs to be white ish to mimic a smelt or cisco. Make sure the hook on the heads big and sturdy, and that the rod is up to the task. Lakers are pure horsepower.

Jig up and down, with lure1/3 of the way to bottom while in deep water in the canoe. Every so often reel moderately fast all the way up and drop back to bottom. They will chase it up.. Hold the fuk on all the time.

Try and fish around humps, points, etc, but still in the deeper water. Think 50-100 feet

Tougher without electronics, but doable.

Flashy spoons work, but the gulp minnow is dynamite
