Exactly, and that is why I made this thread. Because this is going under the radar and I wanted to let people know as this is a fairly anticipated movie. Honestly if this happened to a black character, let’s say they removed Jax from the film because they didn’t want a black character to take away the spotlight from Asians, black Twitter would have already had a hashtag on Twitter trending with tens of thousands of posts and people boycotting the movie.

Liu Kang was always the hero anyway so removing Johnny Cage just seems like an insult in this case. There are a few ******* baiters in here saying nobody cares but "where is johnny cage" was a trending search. Nobody gives a fuk about Cole.

I do think they will try to set him up in a post credits scene though or something. I believe the director said they have plans for him.

Because Kano is a secondary villain, and Sonya is a woman. There is a particular hostility toward white males, and they definitely didn’t want a white male being one of the heroic protagonists.

It definitely middle finger to white men, like a poster before said it’s not that they removed him, it’s why they removed him that is the biggest problem. If they do add something in a post credit scene setting up for a sequel that wouldn’t be horrible but I don’t think they’ll even do that.

White actor was the basis for the entire concept. They wanted to create a franchise for JCVD and settled for a parody of him. The character is literally a white actor and the juxtaposition with Liu Kang is intentional. These racist idiots are too goddamned focused on destroying things to understand that his whiteness is his weakness.

I might be completely lost here but I'm not seeing how this makes any sense/if they are familiar with the lore.

They got rid of beloved fan favorite Johnny Cage because they wanted to have a non-white main character...do they have anyone in that studio that's actually knowledgeable about the franchise? As far as the original timeline or the events of MK1-MK4 (and MK11 for that matter...most of the franchise's story) Liu Kang (who lest we forget is a Chinese hero) has ALWAYS been the main character. Johnny was basically comic relief, a fun side character story-wise until the reboot a couple of years back. He's been a gag character for most of his existence outside the reboot continuity. If what they say is true why not...um idk...stick to the source material? No need to add or remove characters. The 90's film did just fine with Robin Shou leading the film as Liu Kang.

Like to say they needed to create Cole Young (is he not white too though? He looks white and has a pretty white sounding name) to give more focus to non-white characters sounds like it doesn't even make sense when you say it out loud. Like representation of other ethnicities isn't an issue when much of MK's cast is so racially diverse to begin with let alone how their own protagonist is supposed to be Chinese and was originally loosely based on Bruce Lee. Like what are they even talking about?
