Johnny Cage Too “White” For New MK Film

As many of you probably know there is a new Mortal Kombat film that is due to be released in theaters and HBOmax soon.

Personally I have been a Mortal Kombat fan since I was a kid, I played the games and watched the films. One of the first people I remember looking up to as a kid was the character of Johnny Cage. Which goes without saying I was waiting to see who was going to be cast in his role in the upcoming film but when I saw he wasn’t in the trailer I started to assume they weren’t going to have him in the film at all, and I already had assumptions as to why, and it looks like my assumptions were likely right.

The creators of the film made a new character who will serve as the film’s main protagonist Cole Young in order to fill the same outsider surrogate role that Cage filled in the original movie.

This is directly from Screenrant

“Cole Young's creation as a new lead hero also points to the reboot’s emphasis on actors and characters of Asian descent. The modern optics of a Caucasian man playing the lead role in a story about martial arts aren’t great, and Cage’s absence is an excellent opportunity to center Cole’s character and other non-Caucasian fighters like Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Jax, Raiden, and Liu Kang.”

But don’t worry guys we still got Kano who while a great character is of course a villain. Plus whoever said Johnny Cage had to be the lead role? The story of Mortal Kombat always had Liu Kang as the protagonist.

That’s not comparable because Danny Rand (Iron Fist) is white in the comics, it’s how he was portrayed in the source material. This is a conscious decision to exclude one of the most important characters in the story because he’s white.

Actually a lot of people will care when they find out. Most people don’t even know if he’s in the film or not, and if they found out why he isn’t they don’t know the reason why he was excluded. There are going to be tons of people like me who watched the trailer and thought it looked decent and then decide not to watch the film when they find out it’s a woke piece of garbage.

There was even a tv series (was good but only lasted 1 season) where there was no jhonny cage.

He was the second main character in the original film and was a significant character in many of the games, although there was a time where they were trying to shift him into more of a comic relief type role but they went back to having him play a significant part again.

Johnny Cage isn't even the main character so I don't understand the exclusion. In the original MK movie, it was an Asian actor as the lead and nobody gave a sh!t because the audience for the film already knew that. These woke idiots are being extra woke for no reason. That’s exactly the issue I have with this particular case, they basically wanted an entirely non white male hero cast similar to the new Star Wars. However in this case the only white male of any significance is Kano, who not only is a villain but he’s not the main villain, he’s always had a smaller role to play.

The protagonist of Mortal Kombat has always been Liu Kang who is obviously Asian, it makes no sense to exclude Johnny Cage, it’s just a clear middle finger to white people.

It's odd how people who claim to face daily oppression, hatred, and bias have to find things this petty to complain about, and even make up the rest. (jussie sommet). It's almost like they are reaching or grasping straws to prove their point. Either it's that these problems are actually huge, or there really isn't a problem.

Many years ago some wigged out white guys at work said that I was "too white" and I had a lot of fun telling people about what we said and they got roasted. We took racial jokes and twisted them around so they would be about them and started calling them by racial slurs. It was at a Goodyear tire shop and whenever they went to pull in a nice car we would say "okay, pull this one in but don't steal it" then "hey leave the radio alone" and when they were doing a rotate on the tires "don't go pawn those wheels". One quit, which we made jokes about not not being able to hold a job, and the other, after a while, started to realize just how stupid he was acting trying to adopt black culture and changed. Blue colar environments you have to have some thick skin.This was the late 90's early 2000's. To think that these guys today would be validated just makes me sick.
