Pitbulls are trash. They should be treated like coyotes and allowed to be pooped on sight.

Having said that Akita’s can and have held their own against pitbulls. They’re also difficult to train though and are mean.

I carry a 45 most places so I hope that’s enough to put the beast down. I always have it on me when I walk my little dude.

https://www.reddit.com/r/reddit.com/..._save_a_child/
or some background information: I am a ret. special operations veteran from the U.S. Army, and have been trained against attack dogs, although this was my first encounter in a windbreaker and shorts instead of a padded suit.

So, in the middle of my run today through a park, I heard barking and looked to see an obese woman fighting to hold back her pit bull as it barked and tried to give chase to a child riding his bicycle on the path ahead of me.

In quite possibly the most pathetic fashion I've seen, the woman drops the leash and falls, and the dog tears across the field towards the child. The kid sees the dog coming, gets off the bike and starts to run away. I begin running towards the child to pick him up, but the dog is much closer. It jumps onto the child and viciously bites his thigh, taking him down to the ground. The child throws his arms up, and I'm there just as the dog bites the child a second time, on his forearm by his elbow. I gave the dog a hard kick to the ribs and booted it off the ground, but the little **** kept his jaws clamped to the child's arm and started to twist its head back and forth. I dived on top of the dog, got one arm under his neck and tried to gouge the dog's eyes with my other hand. It let go of the kid to try to bite me, and tore a ****ing piece out of my windbreaker sleeve. I squeezed his head close to my shoulder with one arm like I was trying to hold a football, braced myself against his body with my knees, and then held it tightly and twisted his head, hard.

The child's parents called 911 while I wrapped his father's sweater around the kid's arm. His leg wasn't bleeding much, but skin had been torn from the child's arm. The stupid bitch who owned the dog was screaming and crying and telling us it wasn't her fault, the dog had been her brother's, and other nonsense.

Police and an ambulance showed up, and the child went to the hospital with his parents. I went to the police station with the woman, and got a ride home from an officer after I was done. I was on the phone with the kid's father half an hour ago, and he's going to be fine -- the child is still in the hospital now, they're making sure his arm doesn't get infected. They said they've spoken to the woman and plan to settle out of court.

So, that's that. As for how I feel, I don't regret my actions at all, but as an owner of three dogs (two ex-police dogs and a black lab my wife saved), I am disgusted that a dog had to die because of his stupid owner's negligence.

I'm curious what others think about this. My wife gave me a good scolding for being "crazy" but agreed that if I hadn't acted, the child may have been mauled.

As for whether I could have done the same thing without killing the animal, I don't know. I suppose I could have tried to control it without breaking its neck, but it was awfully close to biting my arm and in the moment it seemed like the only option.

I'm curious to know what others think of this situation. I will check back as often as I can to reply to any questions.

Man a rottweiler or worse would be so awful. It'd bite you in the knee and cripple you from the start
Ideally just don't fight the pupper. Some dogs if you don't show fear would just leave you alone
Tour's over if someone sics an attack dog at you

I've seen videos of pits being shot multiple times, and they still continue to attack. One with its spine obviously severed was crawling on its front legs to bite the victim. Their jaws don't lock, they bite, shake out a chunk of flesh, then go for a second, third, etc. Seen videos of them eating faces, etc.

I've seen a video of pits eating its littermates as puppies, so its not the way you raise them either.

There is good reason why people don't use mastiffs, rottweilers, wolfhounds of great danes in bull/dog fights. Pitbulls are bred for gameness (look into it on wikipedia), pain and injury just stimulates them. Their entire flight response has been completely bred out of them. The old saying "Its not the dog in the fight, but the fight in the dog" was initially just a simple reference to the pitbull.

Any other dog can be beaten away, pitbulls can't. Even your firearm is not enough to stop them, you need to draw the weapon, take the safety off, and cock the weapon, good luck doing that with a pit tearing flesh off your arm. Hitting anywhere but the heart and head will just excite it further. If it has a leash, the only way is to hang it till dead. The second best way is to gouge out its eyes, let it take a chunk of your flesh out, then run away. Can't fuk around with a pitbull, you need to kill it straight up.

Also, what's up with all the pit owners linking the dog to patriotism? Everyone on the internet links it to loving America. Also, here in Australia, the #1 dog for patriots is the fukking ugly as chit staffy, essentially just a smaller pitbull. Not the blue heeler, or kelpie which are 100% born and bred aussie, but some ugly chit pit. Every single fight I've ever seen has always involved a staffy, including 2 fatalities.

There's very good reason why dog fighting rings use pitbulls and not wolfhounds. Wolfhounds still have a flight response to pain, but pitbulls completely lack that. Pain excites it and drives it further. You can break all 4 of its legs, and it'll still try to bite you.
Sorry buddy, you're an idiot. Also probably a ****ing twink.

There are countless videos of pits being 1 tapped by guns. Countless videos of pits taking 1 boot to the head and deciding todays not the day. Hell there was a video the other day posted of some guy sicking his pitbull on some guy and the guy(looked like a twink) standing there just lifting the pit off the ground and back down and walking back and forth a street with the dog attached to his arm not giving a **** as he yells at the owner to get the ****ing dog off him. Finally he starts smashing the dog on the ground and the owner freaks out and goes to save his dog.

what you're describing may exist in a small small subsection of pits. It isn't all of them. Most are ****ty ****ing dogs w/ ****ty ****ing owners and ****ty ****ing temperaments. Doesn't mean they are ****ing terminators.

Fkn prime example above the dude legit snaps the dogs ****ing neck w/o getting bit. LMAO.

most people who would fight dogs purposely are trash and most likely wouldn't be able to afford the breeds I speak of or are like you and think pitbulls are the be all end all. A Presa or Corso would have a pitbull dead in a matter of seconds. Pain tolerance won't help when a 700 psi bite force grabs a pitbull's throat and rips it apart. Let alone a huge size and strength advantage. Plus loose skin that protects their muscle. These dogs were bred as war dogs. There are also dogs that were bred to fight off Lions but I'm sure a pit would wreck them too ehPhuckin delusional pitbull lovers

I've spent ~ 2 years in India, and dealt w/ a lot of wild dogs. In my experience you don't have to worry about a single dog attacking you. You do have to be concerned when you're dealing with a pack at night.

Every pack has a pack leader (the alpha). He will be the one testing you, to see if he can intimidate you. They will do it by showing teeth, growling, and attempting to enter your personal space.

1. Animals (and that includes humans) are more likely to attack if they can successfully intimidate you, because you won't put up a fight.
2. DO NOT RUN. Remain clam and relax.
3. Do not back down, if you're going somewhere keep walking slowly and get bigger.
4. Act like you're not threatened by them, and they are not a threat to you.
5. Know that if you get in a fight it will be a fight to death, and no one wants to die, that includes the dog.
6. The pack leader will back down. They have a lot to lose (besides their life of course). If you punk him he will loose the hierarchy in the pack and its not worth the risk.

I've only had to bitch slap dogs a couple of times, but that's as far as it goes. In general, it's a good idea to build your confidence when dealing with animals and you won't be threatened by them.

Had a pit attack my two dogs when I was out walking and they went ape**** on it. LOL was honestly kind of funny since it’s a flat coated retriever and a aussiedoodle. Was a second away from shooting it and the little rascals owner came outside and called it away. Was super pissed. Don’t know if the pit was little bitch or what but my dogs had it handled pretty well.

Are you ****ing delusional?

No ****, the twink got beat up by a dog and a human.

The dog was on him for a solid minute and NOTHING happened but the dude being annoyed by it. Once the dude started whooping the dogs ass the owner came over and beat his ass.

How ****ing delusional are you to not look at the point made vs the prior comment? The dude acted like if a pitbull gets his jaws on you, you're dead and over nothing you can do.

assuming this is a big pit or doberman I would probably try pulling/twisting its ears but it would maybe get more angry if it was clamped onto me with its bite. no clue if it would work. also I would probably want to punch it but hitting it directly in the face also could make the dog just clamp harder and try to rag doll your arm or leg. another idea would be reaching for your car keys or whatever you have in your pocket and using it to stab at the eyes

He took that dog down. If it were you it sounds like you would wait to see if that dog was “intimidating” him as you say, or full on going to attack. Why risk it? Its kill time.
