I never EVER developed an interest in assassins creed games, but heard Black Flag had a good feel

Whereas I remember playing Sid Meier's Pirates about 10 years back

And of course the 8 trillion versions of Monkey Island that have come out

In about nine months from now, Ubisoft is releasing Skull & Bones
I never played any assassin's Creed game longer than an hour but binged the fun outta black flag. GOAT pirate game. Definitely worth a playthrough.

For those that loved Black Sails like I did. Another decent pirate show is called Crossbones, starring John Malkovich. It's nowhere near the quality of Black Sails but pretty decent if you have the pirate itch. It was cancelled after 1 season but I found it pretty entertaining.

They paint the world full of shadows... and then tell their children to stay close to the light. Their light. Their reasons, their judgments. Because in the darkness, there be dragons. But it isn't true. We can prove that it isn't true. In the dark, there is discovery, there is possibility, there is freedom in the dark once someone has illuminated it.

Wild West didn't last long either. Neither did Viking times. Some of the most idealized time periods though for the sheer lunacy.

It’s funny how pirates would sail from shore to shore in search of buried treasure when the real treasure was in the friendships they were making along the way

Disgusting.. Imagine having to chit in rusty buckets, probably shared by 20 other dudes and not even fuking toilet paper around. brb 80% of the times it's a sausage fest and no sloots around.. brb scurvy.. brb mostly boring as chit probably, just sailing around hoping a storm doesn't rape your ship..

The real tragedy is that we're born too soon, not getting to explore space in a super high tech spaceship.. brb smashing sloots on the way to a new planet that has never been seen before, discovering new chit and you can even become a space pirate..

I've read that Jimi Hendrix' entire career was only 4 years long. Yeah these little moments in time get stretched in our collective imagination.

Even wikipedia gives differing views, but the vast majority of sources I've seen say the Golden Age of Caribbean Piracy was 1690 to 1720. But apparently the period between 1715 to 1726 saw a massive explosion in the number of pirates around the world, as a long naval war between Spain & England had ended and suddenly there were all of these experienced sailors left unemployed.

On a different note - it occurs to me that prolly the first exposure in my life to piracy was Captain Crook, the (now discontinued) McDonald's mascot for filet-o-fish sandwiches. Would likely be the earliest concept of pirates for kids of the early 80s.

He was apparently the equivalent of the Hamburgler

But for most of the miscers here, it was probably a few of these from the early-mid 90s

I thought this was crazy interesteing. Outside of say, the Peter Pan cartoon, the early monkey island game was my first intro to pirate lore

I ended up signing up for Xbox Gamepass for PC, basically microsoft's attempt at being a netflix-style subscription service for video games. It's only $1 for the first month, and I immediately shut off recurring billing. All so I could play Sea of Thieves.

And when I run the game, this pops up!

If you know who Toby Stephens is then you know this is gold

WTF piratecels - we just keep winning!
