I dont mean homeless, i mean coming to the realisation that people will step over your injured body on the sidewalk because you're of no interest to them and that people are not social anymore. that people like you are a dying breed and that you're an outlier in a world of zombies.

Try, 99.9%. I remember as was at a restaurant earlier this month. Opposite me had some father stuffing his face whilst "scrolling" on his phone, then he dropped his phone on his kids head and the kids head landed in his pasta sauce. Funny, but I really wanted to bash that guy across his head for ignoring his family and how his persistent phone usage was somehow imperative to his family outing. (The rest of the family were also on their little gadgets)

Annoys me to think that there's no way of reversing this, and as the guy above said, it'll probably get worse. ****! !!! !!!

Three big things redefined the internet into the hellscape it has turned into today



1. Smartphones brought internet with us. Previously you would only be able to access it from a desktop computer. That meant if you were on the internet you weren't out in the real world doing something cool. To post on boards back then or spend 3+ hours a day on internet made you a loser (speaking from experience). But it was like going to the gym, it wasn't with you all the time so when you logged on it felt like a luxury


2. Social Media - previously being on the internet you held back your identity. We were raised with advice such as dont put your name online, a picture online, etc. Which seems comical now. While social media when created mostly worked as attention. Share funny pictures, comment on funny things, etc. It was an extension of hanging out with your friends. However, it has morphed into an echo chamber to say whatever for likes - and the fear of cancel culture has given outsized power to a radical group of people.


3. Consolidation because of big tech. One of the coolest parts of the internet in the 90s and early 2000s was the hundreds of random websites you would find, and then share with your friends. It was like a treasure hunt to find a random site and then spend an entire evening there. Every hobby, unique interest, etc. had it's own group of sites to explore. Now the majority of time is being spent on like 5 sites (Amazon, Reddit, ********, etc.). Which have killed off a large amount of smaller sites.


Sad part is it's gone and aint coming back. While the internet is certainly better today in terms of speed, accessibility, sheer volume of content, etc. it's like comparing exploring the woods as a kid (internet back in the day) to just going on a predetermined hike as an adult. The wonder is gone. Internet, she was the best man.

Smartphones let all the damn normies in.

Just plain disappointed really. 2010 was the epitome of everything, then it regressed from there. Aghhhh.

Yeah man, horrible for the mind. The casual sharing of gruesome/horrendously inappropriate stuff baffles me. Like, in the 90's, nobody would even know about weird stuff as it's near impossible to experience it. Now you get youngsters exploring the internet and end up scarred for life.

Yeah, movies and music are a separate topic altogether. Main reason is that they just ran out of ideas.

Deleting all social media / media consumption is as close to this as you can get IMO.

Worst example I’ve seen was I was at a restuarent and it was Mother’s Day. This mother, husband and two kids go to the table. Before you know it both kids on iPads, father on his phone, and the mother was awkwardingly smiling, not talking to anyone and just sitting there.

The internet experienced a hostile takeover in the 2010's when far leftist Americans and democrat loyalists took all the authority positions in mass and social media.

Right now we are in some phucked up authoritarian maga-corporation era of the internet. It's no longer a place for people to connect, it's become this hostile environment centered around propaganda wars and controlling speech.

Basically the government really needs to break up some of these monopolies and create some new laws around defending citizens rights as internet users.

The 2010's was just the worst decade ever, a totally bankrupt era where everything went to hell because a bunch of puritans took control of media.

I don't know why people bring in politics when discussing these topics. Internet and people being addicted sheep is the starting point. Then it snowballed from there, big time.



That's why I specified 2010. Only 2011 and 2012 were still normal. The next 7ish years were flipped upside-down for an array of different reasons.

Honestly I feel like the internet has become really whitewashed in recent years. Like before the 2010's you had all this access to all these odd corners of the internet, and the search engines would deliver you all kinds of inappropriate stuff with ease. Now a days it's like you gotta really go out of your way and really know where to go to find phucked up chit, everything is so cleaned up now on the popular search engines.

Dude I remember why I left a lot of communities in the 2010's. All I wanted to do was mind my own business and post about sloots and video games, but nooooo, all these hardcore left wing puritans had to take everything over and oust anyone who didn't fit their ideals. It's hard to just ignore something like that or blame any other group of people.

Everything has politics engrained in it now too. There's almost no freedom of speech. You should have seen the misc and other forums in the 2000s. You could say anything and there was no politics. Now i can get banned for mentioning anything right wing on Reddit or any other forum. It's all astroturfed and censored now.
