Yeah, I've heard the canned pumpkin is a mix, too. The ones my mom made were actually really similar. There was a little difference tasting them back-to-back, but not much.

Most people use butternut squash for a squash pie. Tastes very close to pumpkin but I find squash pie a little sweeter in taste. Couple years ago I made a summer squash pie which is more like a custard dessert.

My wife and mother-in-law don't care for tradtional Thanksgiving turkey, so I am doing roast with onions, carrots, and tomatoes with a onion/mushroom brown gravy.

Scratch made mashed potatoes, greens, mac &cheese, roasted maple brussel sprouts with bacon, and apple pie.

My father-in-law and I do like Turkey on Thanksgiving so he is doing a turkey with cornbread stuffing and giblet gravy.

I just made two kinds of homemade cranberry sauce, one regular the other with black pepper and pickled jalapenos.
