The window thing is: The "blind" was down (see photo before). However, the father told the police that when he got there the window was open. But there were no marks, fingerprints... nothing.

The thing is... "someone" is trying to protect them. Everything points to them.

Plus... plenty of criminals in Algarve back then.
And there is absolutely nothing pointing to the german. He was in Algarve and was a criminal...thats it.

Madeleine ODed (probably even an heart attack - heart problems are common in patients with Coloboma);
Parents keep her body in the fridge and fake some photos to use them later as an Alibi - "oh look, we were with her that day");
Father gets rid of the body.

If they were working class parents they'd be locked up. That should tell you all you need to know. Justice for Maddie is a pipedream at this point, she's long dead or at best dehumanized and has little recollection of her past life
