Not sure if you were an fl studio guy, could use some pointers on what VSTs everyone is using these days.
I stopped hustling beats at some point in uni

Shamefully I felt out of sorts making this beat like my library for sounds was pitiful. You and I used to be killing the game back in the day man on these beats
It's very possible, I spoke to quite a few people here regarding music production back when I first joined.

I have used FL Studio in the past, but in the last 8 or so years I settled with Cubase because I started making a lot of orchestral/hybrid music for TV and commercials and Cubase is (imo) the best at handling both audio and midi at an equal level, whereas other DAWs are either really good with midi, or really good with audio. That's my experience anyway.

As far as VSTs go, I have so many that I don't even know where to start. It all depends on what kind of music you're making. For electronic music, including Hip Hop, there are some staple VST instruments that I tend to use on every track:

- Spire
- Dune
- Hive
- Serum
- NI Battery (for drums)
- NI Kontakt (for sampling)

As far as VST effects are concerned, I tend to use a lot of the native Cubase plugins, such as the Compressor, EQ, Chorus, Delay etc. The Fabfilter collection is priceless and I have yet to hear anyone say they dislike any of the Fabfilter plugins. I almost always slap a Fabfilter L3 Limiter on the master channel just to keep everything under control. I rarely even raise the gain on it, I just put it there so it can limit aggressive peaks.

For reverbs, I always tend to use the Valhalla VintageVerb or the Tone2 Warmverb.

Apart from that, I have a ton of other plugins that I experiment with when needed, but honestly, I wouldn't get too lost in the world of VSTs. Get to know all the native VSTs on your DAW and then if you have any specific needs that those plugins can't meet, start looking around for others, or hit me up and I'll probably know what you're looking for.

Regarding sample libraries, there are so many around, but the ones I almost always keep going back to are the Vengeance collections. Vengeance Essential Club Sounds Vol. 2 is probably the best sample library ever made and you can use it for pretty much any electronic genre.

Finally drove home from work. At the local park now with all my Haitian neighbors....

Listening in car. Poverty Hyundai speakers..

In no particular order......

Malakaibeats
IMO best production. Inspired by the source sample.

wallace g
Dope flip. Reminds me of some Busta style song. I forget.

Jandels
This is definitely unique. Wouldn't have thought of anything like that. Dope west coast vibe.

Sprykee907
Might be best use of chops.

Metrobrah
Has a cool vibe to it. I like the use of the 2nd rd of jazz drums that come in.

DBoyDaRealest
This might be the coolest sound of them all but was let down when it ended. Thought for a 2nd some crazy beat was gonna drop. GJDM.

Feelsbadman I let you down. I definitely see what you are saying.

I couldn’t visualize what a drop was supposed to be and any kicks or 808s I was layering just sounded corny and I couldn’t get out of a box so I left it short as I had to pack for work travel.

I might revisit this week when I have a moment just for you since you thought it was cool

Do you guys frequent any other forums for music production/beats? I used to post on a place called futureproducers. Back in mid 2000s it was pretty cool. But that place fukin died like the rest of forums. I guess reddit prob has a place. I need to atart doing music again. Used to be so into it but I've lost motivation. All my band mates got married/kids lol.

I don't post anywhere else. I used to do beat battles on the NZ hiphop forum 10+ years ago, I dont think that site even exists anymore.

I vote Pengh for winner

Lol.. I'm not a fan of my drum programming on this one. Thanks bro great thread.

Can we make this a reoccurring thing? Maybe not all the time but every so often... maybe keep it misc related (like the cellphone thread). Idk if anyone gets an idea, let's start it up again. Lick ass!

Didn’t post there but used to get a ton of information from them. I even found my first paid work on it actually. Some dude was making a karaoke album I think and I remade all these instrumentals for him. Ended up paying me for like 1 or 2 beats I did but it was super validating that I could actually get paid doing this chit

I would be keen for that. I've listed everyones name in the OP so if any of you want to host the next one, just PM the brahs on the list so we don't miss it. We've got a good crowd in here, I didn't expect so many. This is wild man. Did you reverse the sample there? That was cool, i didnt think of that. Off beat abstract.
