Has to be Iran since they're the only other country with F-14s. The 5th generation fighters are definitely modeled after Russia though. This was filmed in 2018-2019, before all of the current events.

For those kind of pilots nothing in a relationship will ever compare to being in the air, how could it. And Tom Cruise IRL would be going after girls 20 years younger than her.

Saw it last night. I agree, it was effing great, really surprised at how good it was.
it’s the best sequel of all time.
Let me stop you right there, it's going too far. That honour belongs to Terminator 2.Back off, Warchild.

Anyone else notice when they were taxiing the F14 out for the first time it looked like a fake mockup/model? The way it was moving made it look like it weighed 20 pounds

It had no where to go but up in my book. I thought the first was pure trash.
I’ll probably see it at some point, but any Tom Cruise movie is never something I yearn to see.
It’s hard for me to watch this goober pretend to be a badazz when you know he’s a puzzy in reality.
Same goes for Richard Gear movies, you know cool was swallowing the salami in his dressing room.

Since we destroyed all air worthy F-14s so that Iran couldn't get their grubby hands on parts yeah there was too much cgi there. I know they used a museum display model for the close and interior shots.
I also thought the surface to air missiles looked too cgi and super fake. Kinda stark contrast to the otherwise amazing and real air acrobatic shots. Director said even the 5th Gen fighter shots were real, just F-18s skinned over using cgi.
I didn't see the point of the whole Darkstar Mach 10 storyline, and him surviving a Mach 10 crash? Yeah kinda unbelievable. Also first half kinda slow, 2nd half picks up quickly.
Anyways already booked tickets to watch it again tomorrow. This is one film you gotta see on the biggest screen you can find. I have an 100' imax 40 minutes drive away but I'm sticking to the 76' imax just 15 minutes away.

I just came back. The movie was pretty amazing, and this is coming from someone that thought the original Top Gun was just "meh" at best. Its just a damn good movie. Tom Cruise still has amazing acting chops. It was just a well produced and directed movie. You can just tell there was actual effort put into the making of the film and its not just some slapped together popcorn flick that ticks off all the pop culture check boxes. Even with the movie being a little over 2 hours it didn't feel like it dragged anywhere, every scene was important and with purpose. It knew when to be funny and knew how to be serious, and was able to transition between the two with perfection.
