What I don't get is why is there a complaint to adding a federal holiday to the calendar. I don't get today off, but it's still great for me because traffic is far more pleasant with less commuters on the road.

I hope we get more federal holidays in the future.

Because the federal holiday is centered around black people. Misc doesn't like that. It's the same with Gay Pride, misc gets big mad around that time like clockwork.

They'll outright deny this, then blatantly prove my point soon after. Really fun to watch tbh.

Hell no, not until a junkie died and the tv told them to. Its much worse than kwanza, which also no one celebrates. But at least it is based on real culture and tradition. Not sitting around crying about slavery because a junkie felon died.

Ummm, have you seen the thread you're posting in? Clearly it's not a matter of nobody caring.
Belittling opposing viewpoints and pretending they don't exist is not necessary when you have a reasonable and well thought out basis for your chosen view.
Juneteenth is a brand new thing to most people, it's not that we shouldn't celebrate black people or freedom but the clear pandering by Biden and emptiness of the holiday makes it a bit insulting.

Why aren't we celebrating the emancipation proclamation?
lol @ that being less important than a couple ******s in the middle of nowhere finally hearing the news years later

Also why is populism apparently a bad thing? This is a forum of few conservatives once you define it

America abolished slavery. Seems like a very American thing to celebrate right?

That's exactly what we're fukking celebrating.

I'll repost this from another thread and leave it at that:

Every holiday starts from something. I'd heard of it before, but never celebrated it as a holiday. Columbus day wasn't a holiday until someone decided it was so. Same for Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, St. Patrick's Day, etc..

Why is a holiday that celebrates freedom, the very thing that we Americans pride ourselves on, something that bothers you so? Because you don't think it's a big deal? Because you don't care about when slavery ended? If you don't feel like celebrating, no one is making you, but you feeling like it's somehow an attack on you and your beliefs is honestly ridiculous. What about it is bad? The holiday itself, not someone else's opinion on it, but your own?

Freedom is the one thing we claim to value over all else. If your issue is what someone on CNN says, stop fukking watching CNN. No one is forcing you to consume liberal media. You choose what you consume. I don't watch the news because all it would do is eventually get me either afraid or angry at something that is ultimately outside of my control in the first place.

I'm about to be 34 and I still don't know who the fuk St. Patrick is, but if it's an excuse to go party and have fun, pass me a green hat and a fukking beer please.
I'm back, bitches!

The emancipation proclamation by Abraham Lincoln was on January 1, 1863 and freed the slaves of the Confederate states.
Not June 19th

The only thing you're celebrating is black fathers day, and the oldwhitemen who made the joke at your expense know you're too stupid to realize it.

Were there still slaves on Jan 1 1984? Yes

How about Jan 1 1985? Yes

So yeah, that declaration took over two years before some people got a taste of freedom.

I'd wager the ending of slavery was a pivotal point in our nation's history, and therefore deserving of a federal holiday.

But like i mentioned in my previous post, why are you upset about the prospects of an extra PAID day off out of the year? They could make Jun 30th a federal holiday calling it scooby-doo day and I'd be just as excited. Who phucking cares what the reason is, I get a day off!

I keep seeing "miscers mad" and "miscers catching feewings" but I'm not really seeing that many posts of miscers mad. Maybe I missed a few threads about this?

We're all miscers here so maybe be a bit more specific in your language. If you diss indiscriminately you diss me.

I don't get that day off btw. I wouldn't complain if I did.

I don't even understand the date discussion. The date picked is a nice date in the summer that works well from a symbolic standpoint. I don't see why somebody would criticize the date. It's really not important.

As long as we can agree it’s just pandering for votes and virtue signaling for big businesses then we are good

It’s not an actual important holiday that anyone has actually ever cared about

my shower thought the other day was if we want to move to a post-race world, we need to stop celebrating every excuse to point out how different people are.

Some of my black friends families mentioned it, others kind of celebrated. It’s been a thing since 1866, but it’s just more mainstream now.

I already pointed out that most of you were middle to upper class white people who hung out with others that are the same so of course you wouldn’t know about it. Not sure how celebrating a peoples release from literal slavery could make someone upset, but here we are.

People are upset by the pandering and wokeism, nobody gives a chit that some black people have a local custom where they celebrate the end of slavery.
