In any given year their “salary” might be like $50k even though they are the sole director of a company making millions

I make over 6 figures with my windshield repair business but it’s definitely not a glamorous job. Doesn’t feel like that much money though tbh.

In the UK or US? Consultant surgeons make about that in the Uk, surgeons in the US make 2-5 times that.

$100k in any major US city is not impressive, I'd say it's the minimum to survive there. A good friend of mine is an aeronautical engineer in Palo Alto and makes over six figures but wouldn't have been able to live comfortably there if he hadn't married his wife who's a doctor with her own practice. All my siblings are at or near $100k/yr: the formula is get a stem related degree, public service job with state/county/city agency, careermaxx with multiple promotions until you hit middle management level and then rot until 62 and collect retirement. Simple formula but soul sucking for 30-40 years.

Yes the UK is basically poverty compared to the US. Truck drivers in the US make 50/100k a year. You can do that with zero education.

The above posters also mentioned that high earners are also more likely to brag. Nobody is going to be on here telling you about his Starbucks job.

^^ Many people who make big money are gone the majority of the time for one reason or another, especially when that big money is particularly big relative to the area (in other words making a lot of money in an area with lower cost of living)

Lots of travel often ends up being a consequence of getting ahead

no thanks jeff!

the only people who make 60-80k on a 40hr work week are usually higher end management at big companies and its nearly impossible to get into that unless you are friends/family with the owner.

That’s false. In big cities, it’s easy to make 100k yearly. Gross income doesn’t matter tbh. Net income is what does.

I was a mechanic, then switched over to being an OTR truck driver and made more my first year than I ever did working on cars. Not only do you make good money, but you also have almost no bills. I had a cell phone with one of those mobile hotspots, and a sirrius satelite radio sub but that was it. The thing is the only way to make good money is to stay out. It was a never ending road trip living in the back of a semi. After almost 2 years I went back to turning wrenches taking a pay cut but being able to live my life every day. Since then I have come a long way and now I'm a shop foreman, diagnostic tech. I'm trying to make it so I don't have to work so hard and make money. Sometimes I think about going back on the road, sell my house, buy a nice truck with a nice sleeper (one with a shower/bathroom) and just take my dogs out on the road.

I typically do 50hrs per week minimum but did 32 days straight of 12hrs per day in 2018 for a major plant shutdown that went sideways

50hrs per week x 4 weeks brings in this right now

Some people may be lying but a lot of miscers are legit. I think people forget that the age ranges of these forums are pretty broad. I'm 35. At the moment my base salary is 70K. I hustle a bit of easy over-time and I make 80K per year without working too hard. If I cared to work overtime often I'd be in the 120-130K range (friends make that much working OT).


I also don't work too much as I often take a week off per month.

A lot of places in the US have **** benefits but there are places with amazing benefits too.

I get healthcare. Sick pay (for up to one year of illness), and enough vacation time to take 1 week off per month, every month. If I have to work a holiday I get paid double time and a half. If I'm scheduled off for a holiday I get 8 hours of vacation time added to my leave. Furthermore, any sick time I don't take during the course of my career they pay me for at my hourly rate when I retire.




A lot of US employers get a bad rap. But there are some with even more benefits then that ^.

Reality is vast majority of miscers even in us don’t make 100k+ base. Most are late 20s- or in 30s so around the 75k area.

Majority of them like the truck driver guy are working 50-60+ hour work weeks and getting OT money to say they make that. Sure they still make it though.

I make $86,000 as a senior environmental scientist at an environmental consulting/engineering company. I have a masters degree and 10 years experience.

My wife makes $100,000 even as a senior director at a very large non profit organization. She has two masters degrees and 7 years experience.

With a $186,000 household in South Florida, we live very very comfortable.

I don't think so tbh. I never meet people who don't have real jobs like engineer, accountant, nurse, physical therpaist etc... I think the averages are just brought down hard by people making close to 0. The true average is probably more like 100k/year. Makes me feel pathetic. srs

Sounds like good money tbh but I would be digging into what the company is charging Clients, because I've seen environmental consultants legit charging $180/hr
