Dam hope you heal up alright OP, mentally and physically... I know that chit is intense and them being fully prepared for action and you being caught totally off guard gives them the edge. That's why now after I experienced a similar incident, at a friends place not mine, I always stay strapped and ready even though I myself am in a nice area where that has almost no chance of ever occurring but you just never know no matter where you are.

Best you can do is stay prepared for now on without being totally paranoid, I know the feel after this type of thing happening messes with your sense of feeling secure and comfortable, hell even having your car broken into can shatter that sense of security. But you're alive that's the most important thing, cops usually aren't worth a **** for this type of thing but hopefully they catch the scumbags.

This. If you were in the United States you’d likely be gone since the intruder would have shot you. Can you use a bat or a crowbar to defend yourself?

Canada sounds like California, but even more neutered in terms of allowing home defense. In some states here you can shoot through your door even before they break in as long as you’re sure that they’ve got bad intentions.

That’s unfortunate and pretty crazy.

There’s a couple of problems I see here though. If this was a hit, and op didn’t open his door or if he had killed the guy with a gun, op would have to move or things may have end up worst because they might come for revenge and take harsher actions if ops voiced wasn’t identified.
