Theyre sending their lowest IQ retards to do it, high chance they overtorque and crack your oil filter housing or lie and dont even change it out. Now most of them just use the pump an leave 8 oz of old oil and whatever sunk to the bottom. If they want $100 for that then fuk it i will just do it myself.

nobody said it was difficult, actually it's easy, which is why everyone said to do it yourself. nobody cares if someone uses a service to get it done, but if you don't want to wait 3 hours and are complaining, then do it yourself. The fact it's not special is the exact point.

right....but the OP was complaining about waiting....so then he can do it himself.

not only that, but stuff is getting more expensive.

An oil change used to cost me $100 at the dealer 1 year ago. Now it's $130. Oil with filter and new plug costs about $60 (full synthetic, oem filter and plug). It was worth it for me to take my car to the dealer when the change cost just $100, but at $130 that's nearly double the cost. I did the last one myself.

Lol guaranteed. Those places are shady. I had an experience at a dealership years ago;

-Took my car in for an airbag recall
-Post service inspection says I should flush my transmission fluid.
-"The fluid looks fine it's just at the 30k interval"
-Change the fluid myself
-Go back 6 months later for something else
-"Oohhh your transmission fluid is so dirty! It needs to be flushed asap!"

Lolwhat

that being said, its like a 20 min job to do any oil change yourself, and that's including jacking the car up, etc. I don't see why you wouldn't do it yourself. it's cheap maintenance.

I would change it myself if i have the tools and know how to. Luckily for me the valvoline that I go to is trustable and been taking my car there for 10 years. It only take them 15 minutes but they charge 90 dollars Ugh!!!!

Make sure you check your car right after you get it back from the oil change service.

I took my car two times for an oil change to the same dealer and those idiots gave it back to me with the oil filter not tighted all the way and oil was leaking.

The primary reason to do your own work whenever possible is because the ex-con working on your car will damage it worse while attempting to fix it.

It is based on several factors but there isn't actually a sensor that tests the oil. It shouldn't be by miles, but by time, humidity, tempreture, fuel consumption, hours of operation, engine load, ect.

Yes oil has improved, and so has build quality, but engines are even more sensitive so it's actually become more critical.

Direct injection engines have an issue with fuel contamination in the oil and also pre-igniton issues cause carbon buildup right on the oil control ring on the piston and once that starts to seize the engine starts burning oil causing an oil consumption issue, and starts taking our catalyst converters but also causing blowby further putting oil up through the PCV system causing even more buildup on the valves. You delay on maintenance and you finally get it done and everything seems fine then things start to go to chit.

Not long ago I had a 2018 Chevy Silverado with the 5.3L. First oil change at 1400miles, then started M1 with MOA additive and changing about every 4-5K miles and switched to Amsoil Signature after about 20K. All these people talking about oil consumption and all early on these engines and mine didn't do it at all. Sold it but was planning on keeping it. Still driving my 2002 Silverado with 391K on the original engine.

I know the computer isn't running a chemical analysis dude, but yes they record and analyze the inputs you are referring to...

Congrats on the longevity, I'm not one of these car forum guys who is posting about the oil they put on in their car; not sure what you are using and if it is synthetic or standard, but I do know on older mileage engines they do not recommend switching from standard to synthetic it can apparently leak and cause problems.

I really don't know why people don't read the manuals, no one knows more than the PhD chemist or mechanical engineer that originally designed the engine. If they say bring it in when the computer tells you to, use a blend and this filter; then do it. If you don't have a computer, do what the manual says

This is a general statement, I'm not referring to your post.

>Drive car onto ramps

>Unbolt Oil pan

>Unscrew filter

wait.....

>Screw bolt and new filter in

>Fill oil

Pour old oil into empty oil bottle done. Takes no longer then 30 mins and you know it was done right with your choice of oil and filter. Can also take a quick look under the car for rust etc while your down there.

Please explain to me how if you don't drive a car that has new oil the oil is garbage after 3 months. It's not the 80s or 90s anymore.
What you keep calling a "computer" is actually a PCM & no, it doesn't monitor "oil quality" it simply tracks the mileage since gasoline is what ruins oil(if the car sits condensation will do the same)

No matter what you do it's 90 days before you start accumulating sludge, nothings changed in the last 75 years regarding engines

this is the dumbest thing i ever heard. the onboard computers dont do oil analysis you retard. you should follow the service manual and let the men with actual mechanical aptitude discuss this here.

I wasn't calling out an error in your post, just pointing something out. Didn't mean to make it sound that way if I did.

Oil quality standards means it just meets minimal standards... set by the government.... and we all know how that all works. The standard is set by lobbyist and bureaucrats, not people looking out for you and me. Such as Amsoil Signature is superior to most oils but yet doesn't have the seal because it doesn't do it in the way the government wants it although it's actually better. Same with Redline and a few others which are actually much better than M1 or most of the others.

The manufacturer of your car only has to get it past the warranty period, and they have a reason to extend out service intervals because it shows their vehicle as polluting less for the EPA, so they will tell you to go 10K+ between changes, using the bulk oil sold at the dealership or any oil change place.

About synthetic oil. What is a synthetic? Mobil 1 and Castrol had a lawsuit over that. They all run a base oil with an additive package. Some is better than others. Amsoil probably has the best detergent package of any oil and dirt is the #1 enemy to a street driven engine. Redline and Royal Purple has probably the best sheer protection but like anything else you can't have it all. My truck with 391K I've used Mobil 1 synthetic it's whole life. I was changing it a 3K but then went 5K, and I hate to admit it but I bought into that whole "Annual protection" and let it go 16K between changes and regret it because it started consuming oil after that. I managed to use BG EPR to flush it and ran it with Marvel Mystery Oil for a bit and it's gotten that down but I have an oil leak I haven't fixed because I lose a quart every 5K miles and I just change it then. Unfortunately, the engine has started to consume coolant, not leaking, it's burning it. Just showing signs of a worn engine.

Reality is I think a vast majority of vehicles could last a lot longer if they were maintenanced properly. I work at a dealership service department and have been in service departments for a long time and most people go way over before they change their oil. Some people wait for the engine to start rattling to change it and then when the engine blows up they blame the manufacturer.
