If your age in your avi is correct then you're fine. I had my son at 32. He's 21 now and I am not old and crippled. lol

I just introduced them to Star Wars and we do movie night every Sunday so did the whole series of movies, just finished last weekend. It's a whole different experience watching stuff with kids who have an entirely different perspective.

Biggest advice I got as a new parent and it has held true to this day is be patient and calm always and also follow through on everything you say.
Keep up the movie nights. We did it with my son his whole childhood and even now at 21 he comes over every Sunday for dinner and we watch a movie or our shows.

Take this period in your wife’s life very seriously bros, loss of her body health and figure, hormonal imbalance resulting in depression and personality change, vaginal tears resulting in loose pussy etc. those are very real things, and I advice you future fathers to take action NOW to prevent all of that. You are about to have a horrific experience in a hospital, and about to witness your wife in insane inhuman amount of pain and suffering, all totally unnecessary, by the way. If you do things right she should push out the baby easily and not even need a Motrin after. Good luck.
If any of y’all get a chance to look into birth centers I’d recommend it. That’s the route we took and it was a much more enjoyable experience than what I’ve seen as far as hospital births.
I was skeptical at first until we did a walk through.
10/10 would recommend

Mine was born loving Baby Yoda. Yea I know it's name is Grogu but for a kid Baby Yoda is much easier. I think we have like, 9 of them now, including a remote control one. Star Wars is gonna be a core memory.

I did try Lord of the Rings with her. I wanted to see if she could handle it so I played the beginning of The Two Towers, and she was cool with Gollum until the tied the rope around and him and she legitimately was terrified. Felt like ultimate chit for quite some time for that one.

Yea, like I said before if rather us both end up with good mental states instead of partaking in having a kid before I was ready. Thanks for the words.

My boy is 15 months. I've been on paternity leave since 12 months. This is probably the best time of my life. I love watching the little guy learn new things every day.

Where are you at that you get solid paternity leave like that? I had decent paternity leave when I was in the military, not gonna get that in the regular people arena.

We came downstairs to an inch and a half of snow this morning. Because of the floor to ceiling windows and it being fields and trees outside, there is an enormous green and brown backdrop. Today everything was just white.

The little went up to the window then looked at us with the clearest "WTF" expression I have ever seen. You could almost see her thinking "where did everything go, why is everything white?"

When we got her outside she was very unsure of what to make of the snow at first and kept pushing down on it with her boots to squash it.

The snowman saved the day. My wife and I were putting snow in to a pile, so she started picking up little bits of snow and adding it to the pile. As the snowman started to grow, she got a lot more enthusiastic and she now keeps looking at it through the window; but the snow might have been a fail without the snowman.

You'll have fun.

We deployed the secret weapon known as the santa hat and put one on the snowman. She loves santa hats.

I don't know what will happen when the snow gets deeper.

I know the statement I'm about to make can apply to any point in human history, but even if I had a wife I wanted to have kids with, I'd be too nervous to bring a kid into this world.

I'm in the UK

I just post at US times because I don't sleep very much, so I get up and work in the middle of the night, which frees up more time in the day to spend with the family.

It was great when the little one was born, as since I was going to be awake anyway, I did all the night feeding and stuff and let my wife sleep.

Your job is to be the best parent you can be and if you actually take that job seriously and are involved in your kids lives, you can give them the tools to deal with most things.

There has never been a good time to have kids, but you take the chance anyway.

I was always ambivalent about having kids. If I had them, I had them and if I didn't, I didn't. I had a kid because my wife wanted to have one and I decided in advance that I would do whatever I had to do to be the best father I could be. That decision was an intellectual one.

The moment my daughter was born and I saw her face, it was no longer an intellectual decision. In the instant I switched from father to be, to father, I became ready to kill for her or die for her.

If you don't want kids, don't have them. There are plenty of crap parents out there, without adding another one who resents their kid.

If youdowant kids, havethem and make the world better for them.

I thought I'd mention, since there's so many dads in this thread, we had a pretty active "official misc dad's thread" earlier this year. It's been quiet lately, and of course standalone threads are welcome, too, just wanted to throw out an invite.

Nice to see so many PMA posts from parents here. One of the things my wife says to me sometimes is like - we spend all weekend in a luxurious way, sex whenever we want, chilling, fine restaurants. Basically, 'living for us'.

And this'll change. Sometimes she wonders how much she'll miss this - some parents say 'you change completely as soon as your child is born', and others go 'you'll miss it, but when they grow up a bit you can do date nights and still romp around when they are sleeping etc.'

What's your take, Misc parents?

My son is only 6 months old so we’re in the “have fun when he naps” stage lol.
Think my mother in law is going to watch him for us to go out to dinner sometime soon. Would’ve happened already but things have been very busy lately.

We were older than most new parents (both of us are in our 40s), so it was a bit different for us. We'd both had very successful careers, we'd travelled the world and to a reasonable extent had "done it all".

Consequently, we didn't feel like we were giving things up, but moving on to the next phase.

We went from a "power couple" living in a house to a family with a home.

It's weird. For me personally, I don't really prioritize those things anymore, I'd legitimately just rather chill with my kid. I do things with my bros still, and about half of them don't have kids.

Thanks for the replies.

We, too, have romped around the world and I feel a call towards increased "roots" in me. Wild visions of being in the PTA, local communities, volunteer coach etc.

Weird right? Almost as if my brain is re-wiring itself.

May have to be one of the last ones at a speakeasy sometime soon and see, heh.
