43 per 100k is extremely high. That's 3rd world level. Yes, there are cities in the states with a higher murder rate, but just LOL if you think they report every murder in St. Lucia. For reference, I live in a metro area of roughly 200k and there's roughly 4 murders per year. St. Lucia has 170k people and they clocked nearly 80 reported murders last year. Their clear rate for murder cases is 1 out of 5. Guarantee if their 'police force' comes across a dead body, if there's no gunshot or stab wounds, they're not going to rule it a homicide.

With you on that. Wouldn't travel to El Salvador, Venezuela, and most of Mexico.

For a population of 170k, there were 74 murders last year.... that's south Africa levels. Some Scottish guy was sitting on a balcony at a bar and him and his friend got shot up by a dude running by wearing a baklava recently.

Then I started researching other Caribbean islands to see what were the safest. The majority are all violent, gang infested islands near the top of the list for murder rate.

The only one with virtually no violent crime and a murder rate of 0 was St. Barts.

Now i don't want to leave the fooking resort.

Kinda feel this way, with the exception of some CA countries like Panama or Costa Rica. I went to Costa Rica in 2005 with my family when I was young and we stayed at Playa Langosta in Tamarindo. I walked down some dirt roads and found an old iron horseshoe which I still have today. Great memories of a safe but undeveloped area. It was quite unknown at the time. Now it's blown up and touristy surf town but still a very safe area.

Edit: There were decent condos for sale on the beach at playa langosta for 90k when we visited. Those condos are like 700k now. I just looked it up and I think these are the ones I remember seeing:

Imagine getting in on that when they were 90k for investments. All those opportunities are gone nowadays.

Although an old ass fort would be cool, but they don't have **** like that there. That's why I'd go to Dry Tortuga for that.
Again, if its part of a named tour, you should be ok. Probably one of the best excursions I ever did besides the old Mayan ruins, was a dune buggy adventure to a cenote. You basically drive your own dune buggy through the rainforest to this underground pool of water. You are in this cave full of bats and stelagtites and you hop in the water and its this pool of water that looks really green and like 250 feet deep. Was really cool experience

I also enjoyed Barbados, Aruba as I mentioned before (basically all of the ABC islands were nice--Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao), the British Virgin Islands, especially Virgin Gorda, and Martinique.

The diving is great in the Caribbean. I dove all over the Caribbean back in my 20s and most recently off of the Florida Keys.

I like the Keys and they have a Caribbean vibe without the crime on some Caribbean island. Stay away from Marathon key, though, as it's full of white trash. Just drive through it from Miami to Key West. It's the best drive that you can imagine!

I too had this false dream of visiting the Caribbean until I learned that Kingston, Jamaica was the murder capital of the world by the time I was a teenager.

Maybe Bonaire is safe to visit. It's an overseas Dutch territory.

Nah bro, here in DC we call it exposure to others not ignorance.
This place is very international, but it takes time to meet everyone.

lol @ booking a trip to a third world location without thoroughly researching crime rates there first.

Here's the deal man. There are going to be 'safe' zones in those places. Typically all inclusive resorts and places that cater specifically to tourists. If you leave those areas you'll be at risk of being victimized.

If you're wanting to go fishing/diving there is a pretty good chance if you go with a boat service with a good reputation you'll be completely safe. Its the retards that want to go 'explore' and see how the natives live that get into trouble.

Those islands have very strict gun control. If everyone is relatively unarmed a native with a screwdriver or even a sharp stick can be lethal.

Firearms don't always = violence. An impoverished and desperate population without any morals, integrity or ethics = violence.

This is what fukking gets me. If you want to go and beachmaxx, why not just go to Honolulu or San Diego or some chit, where there are Americans with jobs who won't try to pickpocket and kill you?

"BRB you're good if you just stay in the hotel!" BRB paying for prison with a beach.

I'm a LOL at travelcels kind of guy, and the objective chittiness of the rest of the world is a big reason why.

Makes me think of going to Nassau with my parents when I was 19 and driving from the airport to the resort. Leave the area immediately surrounding the resort and it's all full-blown ghettos

Brb planning a nice relaxing trip to Jamaica (Kingston), book a one-way commercial ticket there and then prearrange for the return of your casket
