Mind blown at how violent Caribbean countries are

Just booked a trip to St. Lucia and stupidly assumed it was a safe country due to it being touristy, isolated and small and "exercise normal precautions" on the US gov travel website. Only while researching activities did I find it how violent it is. There are rival gangs and frequent home invasions murders. For a population of 170k, there were 74 murders last year.... that's south Africa levels. Some Scottish guy was sitting on a balcony at a bar and him and his friend got shot up by a dude running by wearing a baklava recently.

Then I started researching other Caribbean islands to see what were the safest. The majority are all violent, gang infested islands near the top of the list for murder rate.

The only one with virtually no violent crime and a murder rate of 0 was St. Barts.

Now i don't want to leave the fooking resort.

Statistics clearly show the countries with more melanin have significantly higher violent crimes rates than countries with less melanin. You'd have to be a complete retard to disagree. (Super Ded fkn Srs)

Have been on several Caribbean cruises. The cruise directors and staff always heavily recommend ONLY going on excursions that they have vetted out. Have heard nothing but horror stories and even slightly sketchy stories from people who didn’t heed that advice. Worst case is they add a 0 to your bill and you are out some money, worst case you are sliced into pieces in some alley.

Full disclosure, walked around several places off the “port” areas and I wouldn’t recommend it anyways. Nothing really to see, best case you get cheap alcohol. I would go get hammered in town before heading back to the ship where the beers were $7-8.

Legit was planning on Cuba a few years back when the travel restrictions were eased. Waiting too long to do that trip.

My cousin and I went to DR and it was cesspool. Outside of the resort area you are absolutely not safe.They even have curfews. Don't go out past 10 PM.

Same with Puerto Rico. They have wrost hoods than Detroit.

Semi-unaware. I mean I know there are some violent cities there, however I thought Caribbean countries were relatively safe compared to the rest of Latin America. I heard some decent things about the Bahamas and Puerto Rico. Haiti is a gigantic chithole though.

I’ve read stories from sloots who thought the warnings were just from racists who are scared of foreigners, so they try to leave the resort thinking it will be fine and the resort workers physically stop them from leaving and tell them if you leave this resort you will get robbed/raped and possibly murdered. Also read stories from sloots who did leave the resort and did get robbed/raped.

I don’t know why people go to these places anyway you can get the same experience in Hawaii.

Same here. Stupidly I just assumed small countries like that with high tourism and being isolated would be fine. Kind of regretting booking there and should have gone to the south pacific...Hawaii, Fiji, or Tahiti.

There is literally no point in leaving the resort / planned excursions in these places. "Exploring" = walking around a poverty city where people are trying to make ends meets any way possible, especially taking advantage of stupid tourists. If you want to go to a place with nice beaches but also cities to explore, check out Portugal.

Go to the native areas of Hawaii and they are also largely chitholes.

Puerto Rico ain't too bad, I looked it up and they have 16-19 homicides per 100,000 which is most likely in some bad hoods around San Juan. Compare that to Jamaica and St Lucia around the 40's per 100,000, and St Louis/new Orleans in the 40's and places like Tijuana around 150. I enjoyed PR when I went some years ago, wouldn't mind a nice beach condo in Rincon or somewhere else on the west coast.

Edit: also visited Cuba which is nice looking but pretty depressing with rampant poverty. Nice, peaceful people though.

Thats why you get the all inclusive resorts that you dont have to leave. You just float around getting hammered and eat steaks and smash sloots.

Sure but at least you’re not confined to a small resort. Almost every place you go has neighborhoods that should be avoided.
