This lasted....about a week.

Drinking/alcoholism is one thing I could never get behind. Were you guys drinking to get wasted, or do you mean buying fine bottles of whisky etc. and enjoying those?
Yeah I drink to erase problems. Started out doing it just to party and have more fun with girls but nowadays I just like the way that liquor hits. About 6 months ago I was throwing back a corona and felt like the answer to my problems might be at the bottom of that bottle. Been on a rampage ever since. There's certain things people with addictive personalities should never touch.

Got myself pretty close to rock bottom recently though. At a bar drinking in broad day at 2p on a Thursday like its Mardi Gras and the girl I'm flirting with asks if I even have a job...ended up losing my phone that day. Would've never imagined myself doing this kinda chit 5 years ago. Its caused enough problems that I moved in with a family member cause it's cheaper than therapy. Gonna suck not having a social life for a while tho....every girl I've met in the last year has been via bar degenmaxxing but tbh life was better when I was an FA miscing at 9p on Saturday.

Not being serious about a career immediately out of highschool

Luckily I have my chit together now and have a family, house, dependable car and get by but I could be so much further ahead in life

Could be much worse of course, incredibly grateful for my life
How old are you and when did you get it all together?
Do not think that what is hard for you to master is humanly impossible; and if it is humanly possible, consider it to be within your reach.

I don't even know, sometimes you run for so long that you forget what you're even running from, its just an instinct at that point. Im on the path to recovery now though. Been rough but Im hanging in there. Thanks bro, appreciate the kind words

29, which I admit is still young. I binge drank pretty much every weekend from 17 to 20, developed an autoimmune condition at 18 after getting pneumonia. Tried to manage it with gym and healthy food but was smoking and partying on the weekends. Stopped partying around 20 but still would drink on occasion and pretty much always way too much when I did. Always picks up in the summer, drinking with family at the cottage. Picked up smoking cigs full time around 19/20 and smoked alot for years, cut back, was on and off them up until about a year or so ago. Little by little I cut down and cleaned that stuff up but even last summer I bought a house and picked up drinking again for a bit. Always ate healthy and exercised but would "treat" myself to junk food all the time, eating out, eating chocolate, candy, chips. Never was fat, always had a 6 pack and active so thought I was good but in the past couple years im starting to feel the affects of aging. Don't feel like like im 18 anymore lol. I always would go on streaks of strict dieting but ruined it, I started getting serious about diet probably 2021/beginning of 2022. So hasn't been all that long. Wify getting pregnant beginning of 2022, lit a fire under my ass. Always been with the same company since 18 years only just slowly been moving up, started as a grunt now im a legit office-cell professional.

I have always been more so healthy than not but for a long time thought I could "indulge" and do both, be healthy and treat myself like a fuking dumpster. Only in the past few years have I realized I need to change some **** and its been little by little. Now I don't smoke, don't drink, might have a beer or 2 on a special occasion, finally cut the weed smoking, very serious about diet and lifestyle habits, cut the wasteful spending, stick to a budget and keep improving. Striving to level up my career but I do feel very limited because my skills are only developed in the role I currently have.
money, cars, clothes and hoes is all a miscer knows

It is a real shame you went through that. I know a few guys thar suffered physical and emotional abuse from their wives for years before they were able to stand up for themselves. Sadly it took enough time that the eventual divorce cleaned them out and left them very bitter - for a time. Some are happily remarried at least.

What stops you from achieving 1) now though? If you lift and have aged reasonably well, even in your 30s you can get a woman in her mid 20s, and do that stuff. Don't beat yourself up for not having a family underway already - you may have dodged a (few) bullet(s).

On the PhD - would that really help with your career? I have a few colleagues that right Dr. Douchebag in their signature, and to me it's such a pathetic display. But you know my thoughts here - PhDs aren't much of an achievement, and most academic institutions have no business offering doctorates at all.

I had an amazing time at school in many ways socially but that's the one thing I wish I'd done differently.
It's funny, right? That looking back all those As didn't mean much, but a D->B is a drastic difference. Either way, the only folks I know who keep speaking about their college days in their career are: (i) folks just starting out; or (ii) folks who peaked in college.

Hope you're neither!

What's this 'we are all god'? If anything, the dystopian world we live in now enforces (this is not trolling) just how many "have nots" there are. And it's getting worse.

The social like/women thing as it pertains to alcohol/quitting drinking is a real catch-22, huh? On one hand, being an alcoholic tends to get you negatively judged in those situations, usually rightfully so. Meanwhile, many of those same situations tend to involve booze and people who insist on drinking alcohol.

I've always been mind blown at how much money and time some people throw at their vehicles. I know a dude who between him and his wife owns - two pickup trucks, a car, one of those motorized scooters that look like a mini crotch rocket, a boat, and anywhere from half a dozen to a dozen snowmobiles at any given time. Dude lives just outside of town in the country. He talks about how it takes him 4 - 5 hours to mow his lawn with a riding lawn mower, is looking to build a second giant shed for more vehicles and stuff, always has some big project his wife is having him work on.

The dude talks about all of it as bragging points. To me, it all sounds like a huge pita. Srs. I can only imagine how much time, as well as money, the guy drops on maintaining that stuff.

Yeah, I've been thinking about this post. Vaping basically gives the nicotine rush but doesn't stink like cigarettes do. Probably a good idea to wean off these as well.

So you're saying, beyond the nicotine itself - for some smokers that since it helps with their ADHD it is more addictive/pleasant than it would otherwise be?

How you could confuse me with that poster is laughable. Is it the 'graduate school' reference? From this post of yours I can truly see what your greatest regret must be: lack of a quality education. Just remember, it isn't too late. And thanks for respecting the [SRS] tag.
