Gen Z hardly wants to work, period. let alone WFH, so good luck forcing them into offices. Pandoras box has already been opened, There is no going back to that. The only people that are back in the office 100% are loyal to their corporate overlord boomers and asians/pajeets in the US on work VISAS who are slaves to the demands of the company they work for (less they get shipped back to India/China).

My job is hybrid. I simply dont see myself going back to the office 100%....ever. I will quit this job before going back to the office even if it means taking a paycut at a different job.

The feeling I have for not going to work M-F is as strong as taking a horse and carriage to work instead of a car. Image a boss saying that people need to start riding horses again to work. I will quit that job before doing something so asinine...just like I'd quit a job forcing me back into the office.

This only works as long as you have leverage. When companies started getting rid of pensions, unions, jacking up healthcare costs, flatlining wages, and demanding wagies start working 50-60 hrs/week instead of 40, people threatened the same thing. But it slowly permeated, industry by industry, until it became standard for every job.

In capital vs labor, capital is almost always going to win. And what do you think will happen once AI kills tens of millions of jobs?

Boomers and Gen X caved to the demands of companies at the time because they had families and assets they wanted to preserve. GenZ lives paycheck to paycheck. They're not starting families and have absolutely no prospects of home ownership. If they're not living with 4 roommates in an apartment they're living out of an RV where they're probably more content doing odd jobs under the table which is just enough to pay for gas food and registration tags for their RV.

Yeah look at those countries. Competing with 100 ****** to buy $1M starter shacks in icy hellhole Canadian towns, Sweden looks like west Congo, Germany on track to become Syria 2.0, etc.

They have much stronger social programs, so their fall will be slower, but we're all sliding toward the same economic cliff. All have the same disease, and even though we could theoretically right the ship, the people in charge will never let it happen. They would never risk $0.01 of their own wealth, even in the short term.

Industries shift. It won't happen overnight. No matter how comfy your current job is, you should always be looking elsewhere, as if you could be fired tomorrow. AI will get rid of jobs, but AI will also create the need for different industries catered to AI and AI maintenance.

People will criticize it and screech about inflation, but the alternative is homeless and skyrocketing crime EVERYWHERE even in rural areas. Forget Tent cities, it will be Tent STATES.

What we'll be left with are the ultra wealthy/CEOs/politicians living in Marthas Vinyard and Marin County surrounded by military security while the rest of the country is in squalor waiting for their monthly rations of soylent green biscuits.....Or the rich will just live in Space colonies in earths orbit (funded by Elon Musk of course) like the movie Elysium.
