Yea thankfully in my apartment now it isn't that. But where my parents live everyone's starts at $200 baseline, even if you shut your water off. It's a huge scam and people have been trying to get this water company out and even contacted news networks to do those investigation style hit pieces. But, nothing ever happened to them. Someone just said that it's because that town has lower property taxes than most surrounding towns so it's like a water tax.

This in in IL which is one of the most corrupt states so it isn't surprising. Property taxes were designed to help pay for local public necessities and for things like firemen, schools, etc. That's how it always starts. Then it turns into a scheme to siphon as much money as possible for other "programs" that just use most of the money to give to the people in charge of these programs.

There is an expressway/highway that was extended and built up by where I live that was finished around 2007. Initially they had tolls to pay at multiple spots and they were between $1.80 and $3.50. They said that was going to be to pay for the highway extension, and then when it was paid off over time, they would get rid of the tolls. Well that came and went and the tolls are still there (cheaper if you have an I-pass which was their "deal"). That's how taxes work around here. Income tax was supposed to be temporary. Now look where it is. IL also has the 3rd highest gas taxes making filling up your car even more fun.

Idk how people manage $100 electricity bills. My electricity bill is usually around give or take $190.

Most taxes are a complete scam; you think you're paying for your community to better itself but in reality most projects are subsidized by federal taxes you're already paying, the state simply asks for the money and they get it

Exactly lmao. I noticed this chit years and years even before being "awake" to how the world truly works.

I remember sitting with friends and just bringing this type of stuff up and working through the logic out loud realizing how fukked up the world is/becoming. The world just revealed itself more and more over the years.

Another example is the gas tax in IL. They keep adding more, and for covid times, they literally bragged about taking away the newest gas tax (that was passed overnight a year prior) as a way to help people at the pump. So they add a tax, take it away for a year to act like a hero, then bring it back sweeping it under the rug. Look at our Governor too. There's a common denominator.

Politics, financial scams, taxes, you name it. People are too busy going nuts about a new movie to call out any of it. Buckle up boys. Going to be a long ride through the clown world roller coaster.

thought about solar but not sure it's worth the hassle/look.home insurance is optional on a paid off house...did come in handy when they paid for most of my new roof last year.

I spend more time than anyone on the planet reading, learning and planning. Everyday is a mystery and that's how I like it...no timetable for anything. Right now my family called and asked if I wanted to meet them at Texas Roadhouse...I said sure. Those rolls are hard to turn down.
