Severance is just an initial offer. You can ask for more. They want you to sign and go away, there's a good chance they will give you 50-100% more if you ask for it.

Just thought I would update this:

Was offered a new job at the competitor making 20.8% more. Met with the CEO and CFO late last week and really enjoyed talking with them. They are really down to Earth and put a ton of value on employee appreciation. It is a smaller overall company than the previous having roughly 1800 employees worldwide. My previous employer had roughly the same but they are owned by a much larger company.

I'll most likely accept the offer. I do have to deal with the separation agreement from my previous employer. I haven't sent it in yet and was planning on hiring a lawyer to negotiate a higher payout. I also don't want to wait to accept and start my new job. I'm really not sure if it will have any impact or not on the agreement, but they are very sensitive about people going to this particular competitor because they have taken a ton of talent the past few years.

Thoughts?

Glad this worked out for you. Don't tell your previous employer where you are going. It's none of their business once they walked you out. Don't sign it obviously if it has a non-compete.

I won't tell them, but I will put it on my linkedin. There isn't a non-compete in the agreement. I got a lead on a good attorney I'll talk with tomorrow.

Interesting experience overall.
