I remember when Obama was in office he gave a lot of incentives for companies to hire part time, as a result 2 jobs were created for every one real job, as a result he could boast how many jobs were created and got the unemployment numbers down. A lot of people just gave up. Companies were giving PT employees sub-20hrs a week. Wages were stagnant during that time as well and cost did rise a lot. Also there were many people underemployed where they were more qualified for higher jobs but were working a lower job just because that was all they could get.

Distinctly remember this.

Customer service at retail and quick food places improved because all of a sudden you saw more mature workers in BS low pay jobs. Like men roughly between 30 and 50 working as cashiers at Target.

I felt sad for the 50+ year old women that I saw working deli and bakery counters.

Every food manufacturer I know of is hiring desperately, and they pay very well. There are tons of jobs out there, tons that pay well but they require skills the younger generation doesn't have time to get.

So what the fuk is going on? On an unrelated (but seriously related) note adults are *really* getting into toys. Legos, Mattel, and even Disney parks are catering to "adults" to the tune of tens of billions of dollars. Marriage and children (traditional money pits) are being delayed, meaning less motivation and urgency to make more money. Half of all adults 29 and younger live with their parents. Student loan debt piled on top. Millennials and zoomers are simply reacting to an environment, and that environment is reacting to younger generations actions.

What do you do when you've wasted 5 years in school, came out with debt out the ass, and don't have a salary to afford the chit previous generations took for granted? Oh, I know! Go to trade school! LMAO. That is the correct answer IMO but a hard ask when CCs are structured to force a student to take 2 years worth of units to get certs and degrees (which actually takes 3-4 years if you work). I tried looking for a basic welding class, CCs around me don't offer that. They offer a program, break the necessary knowledge to even start into 3 fukking classes. Alternative? Pay out the ass again for private school. Fuk me. I'll just learn on the job, it's an ancillary skill anyway. I'm glad I didn't end up with debt, tho I fukked up in a variety of ways. Feel bad for current generations, they honestly can't be blamed for the world they've been raised in.

In some ways the slowing of the economy causes business to improve it's quality and streamline systems. Efficiency improves. Sucks for the workers but it's a necessary process to keep the overall economy strong and growing. As for workers, they tend to take care of their good one's and get rid of the riff raff. It's going to be a rough time for those who have basically been living off others and the system since the pandemic, the quiet quitters, and those who just want to mope around on entry level or low skill jobs with poor work ethics.

What will happen is they will either get laid off, or get fired when their company starts enforcing policies and performance standards and then they will find that nobody is hiring. If someone is hiring, they are going to be more picky and they will have to compete with more applicants. If they do get the job they will find that the employer will be on their ass like no other because they have 20 other applicants they can bring in next week to replace them.

Last company I worked for, about 20% of the people there were not profitable. We had a lot of volume of business so a lot of work. The only real reason we kept those people were it was hard to find people to replace them. The only benefit was that if we got rid of them, the volume would need to be handled by the other people which would reduce their productivity and put more strain on them and reduce the capacity to do business and in turn not be good for our customers, ending in bad reviews and poor surveys. If the economy slows, volume will decrease, and guess what's going to happen to that 20%?
