Is that really you? Unless that shirt is huge, you look way smaller on video compared to the pics you post. Good lift. I feel way better squatting in the smith machine, due to some injuries I have had in the past. (Super Ded fkn Srs)

Brootal. It's extra large. I was 223lbs this morning. Probably because I usually post pics with a pump.

I just did this single and a back off triple, then did smith machine squats, split squats, and quad/hamstring machine. I'm trying to do as little actual squatting as possible.

Could maybe get in on this

I’ve done 465 before, very deep ROM and it wasn’t a grinder. That was about 2 years ago and I haven’t been able to match my old strength. I’ve been really close to 315x20. I think I’d be more interested in a 20 rep challenge than a 1RM one. Lifetime natty
Best lifts:
Bench press: 315x5
Squat: 465x1
Strict press: 205x5
Deadlift: 405x13 (conv tap'n'go with straps)

Do you still squat? I barely squatted in the past 2 years. Mostly doing leg press, smith machine squat, and hack squats.

I'd be down for a 20 rep challenge too. I did 315 for 20 in the past.

I do, the last few months I’ve been gaining a lot of strength back, my deadlift and bench are probably near my all time strength (until I upset my shoulder so my bench is out), but squat still needs some work. I got 315x12 a week or two ago

That said I use machines a lot more than I used to

Not even sure the best way to train for 20 rep. Feels like it takes forever to recover from so I’m not sure it’s efficient to practice

Anyone else feel like squatting is overrated? Idk. I haven't squatted in like 2 months due to knee injury. Been doing plenty of bulg split squats and reverse lunges tho

Depends on your anatomy imo

I knew a guy that tried to squat for a long time and always struggled with just 225. He had really long limbs and a short torso. His squat looked like a good morning. I don’t think there was anyway to fix it. If that’s you, yeah, squats are going to be a chit leg exercise

For me I like squats cause leg presses hurt my knees, squats don’t. Squats plus leg extensions and finish off with some light leg presses is a pretty good quad workout for me

When I did 315x20 I just did standard 3x10 for about 4 weeks. Now if I were to try a new 20 rep pr I'd probably just keep going for max strength in the squat but up the reps in my accessory stuff. Especially bulgarian split squats.

Yeah for sure if your goal is quad hypertrophy. I'm treating it purely as a strength movement for now. Nothing more than 1-3 reps. Mostly just doing it for fun.

When I was younger, in my best shape and strongest. Squats were the only thing I felt did anything other than just give a pump. But that’s just me. Maybe it was mental? There are plenty of scientific studies online if you care to search for them. Now that I’m older I only have so many difficult sets in me before tiring out. So with a minimalist approach I still stick with squats.
In order of what I personally found effective, low bar back squat, high bar back squat, front squat, goblet squat, then finally hack squat as the first machine lift.

Depends if you're lifting for hypertrophy or for performance IMO. If you're an athlete I believe there's nothing more superior than the squat for all athletes. However, if you're just in the gym for overall fitness and to improve your physique I'm personally not a fan, especially as I have gotten older. I have a way better mind-muscle connection on the smith machine, with my heels elevated than I ever had on a barbell squat. However, I'm also going full range as low as possible, then finish off with the hack machine where my quads feel like they're going to explode. (Super Ded fkn Srs)

I love them. I feel like I have a much more consistent squat with them. Same depth every time. It feels like my knees are less wobbly too.

Could be an erector spinae strain. This has happened to me before and I did the worst thing ever for it: I stopped lifting.

Find a way to keep blood flow to that area when you're sure it's not a slipped disk.

It's over rated for guys with short femurs/long torsos. Those guys should be doing deadlifts or a variant of them.

My old flame hurt himself in his junior year of college really bad doing squats. I'm leery of them, but I still do them cautiously since they are so effective for the butt.
I'm in on the challenge on the women's side.
Please explain the math. which "weight" is body weight?

They're expensive as chit for what they are but it's one of the few lifting accessory purchases I don't regret. Go one size down from what the site says after you measure your knee.

I was wanting to get that sbd belt that all the powerlifters use now but checked and it's $300. Hell no.

That's muzzlrpress's formula for calculating a max based on a certain number of reps. Both "weight" in the formula is weight of the bar.

For scoring purposes of the thread I figured weight of the bar - bodyweight is a good way to compare lifts

I have the same and found out it was my SI joint. Doing some stretching 1-3 times a day for a few mins on rest days specifically for that joint helped me out.
