Had someone on wifes side of the family complain "no one can do maths anymore" because he constantly stuffs around cashiers and thinks it's the cashiers fault.
I'm pretty easy going and dont argue much, but I had enough and shut him down. Told him if a cashier is ever going to get scammed, it's when someone tries to change their monetary denominations or similar, multiple times in a cash transaction.
Pretty much, he's a scammer and hasn't worked a job for as long as I've known him.

Maybe I'm biased because I like OP and find him relatable, but I believe he thought the phone thing would be helpful because he was providing information to help the driver possibly help him.
I understand the thought process behind that, but I also understand what you mean by just sitting down and figuring it out on your own.
