On this vid you can see a number of vehicles crossing the bridge before collapse but it actually looks like there weren't many/any on it when it collapsed.
I heard there was a bunch of tradies working on top the bridge though.

Obviously any repair/replacement will take years.
2 tunnels cars can use but it was a beltway bridge, so all tractor trailers, large trucks, hazmat, etc. will need to go around the other way. It'll be a complete chitshow. But the main problem is under that bridge is the ONLY way for container ships into and out of the Port of Baltimore, which is one of the largest shipping ports on the east coast. And that's now gone. Cleanup ain't gonna happen over night.

In the video in the twitter link I posted you can see the yellow flashing lights for work trucks working on the bridge.

Baltimorans are dreading the congestion in the tunnels. Also all hazmat used to pass over the bridge since 9/11

I don't think it will take too long to clear the shipping lanes once they finish the rescue mission.

I doubt they rebuild the bridge. Probably put in a 3rd tunnel.

We got to pray just to make it today. Try praying for the bridge to reassemble & those in the water not to die of cold water shock/hypothermia buddy-oh no, a totally useless gesture.

If you zoom in on the actual port authority feed, you can see that the ship actually starts reversing, which results in the bridge coming down.

Ship was actually partially supporting the bridge for a while. Idiots.

Are you serious? Jesus Christ dude. ANY disruption at this port is major. Removing thousands of tons of steel, concrete, and debris from 45 degree water will not happen in a day.

No, they won't build a 3rd tunnel to handle an additional 30,000 cars a day. They won't build a tunnel to handle hazardous materials. They won't build a tunnel to handle tractor trailers on one of the most major thoroughfares in the US. They won't spend 10 years re-engineering the area to become home to a tunnel. There's a reason the bridge was there in the first place.

They don't need to remove the entire bridge to open the shipping lane. There is no reason to rebuild the bridge. A tunnel makes much more sense.
