so, he's basically hoping that we die before we can take out our SS?

yes, they're still "working" but lets not pretend they're stocking shelves in a grocery store or moving inventory around in a warehouse. Their work day involves sitting in front of a computer and having Zoom calls.

He's expecting ditch diggers and roofers to work until they're 65. Thats disgusting.

No, you should say ' I'm aware this chit isnt sustainable so lets change course before I lose more money I'll never see', instead of complaining when people like this CEO brings up what we all already know.

Those are jobs for the young brah. I work in heavy industrial construction, the goal for people in the trades should be getting off the tools and more into foreman / general foreman / superintendent / management roles as they get older.

I bet the majority of early retirement fukkers are doing office jobs much like these dudes. And they make more money, probably blabber on the internet about WFH or doing 8hrs of actual work per week, and then they want to check out of the workforce early.

The solution is to reduce SS payments for everyone and that doesn't get anyone elected or re-elected.

this thread isnt about an election. there are people getting mad that the rich white man dared even acknowledge reality about the issue. thats the problem.

And no, reducing payments wouldnt solve anything because at a certain point its not even worth it. brb getting your $200 month SS check that wont even pay for gas. whats the point.

The whole thing needs to be blown up.

That issue has been discussed for as long as I can remember. The GOP even recently brought up the idea of updating SS and our medical system and Biden and the Democrats are roasting them for it. Some conservative writers are doing similar, saying it was a dumb election losing type suggestion.

That's one of the problem with government social retirement programs. It is not realistically possible to modify them as doing so is political poison.

Probably the best bet is to find cures for medical problems. I'm laughing about that though as I doubt researchers, government or otherwise, will be looking to lower Medicare medical costs.

He is correct that people are now living FAR longer than when the "retirement age" was set, resulting in a much greater burden to support. The problem is people's health and abilities diverge greatly the older you get. You might have one 70 year old ready for the nursing home while another might have many productive years left to contribute.

Are you for or against social security in its current form?

I am not a fan of Fink at all but I can separate my emotions from his words- SS is fukked and older people will be forced to work for longer. Why cant you get past his religion?

If you had said something of substance in the first place we could have skipped this part. Srs.

We can figure something out. We at least need an initiative on it to submit proposals.

Probably not. If you're a ditch digger in your later years you're probably not that good with money….or you went to jail, and simply don't qualify for anything other than back breaking tradie labor.

I think people often forget that the preceding generation before the Silent Generation had a 90% Elderly poverty rate. That is one of the reasons SS was created in the first place.

so should we turn into China and just let old people die for the sake of the economy?

Bro, the average person collecting Social Security at 67 is $1,505 with a max of nearly $4,000. That's a LOT more than $200 by the way and that is supposed to be a supplement to retirement, not all of your retirement.

yea I picked $200 randomly not literally. But to cut it meaningfully, it would become worthless. Just gut the whole thing and start over.

I agree with you in that it should be cut completely, but that's never going to happen. A small cut in benefits is what WILL happen at some point though.
