Ryan Garcia looked more nervous before the fight, but then gives Haney an ass whoopin. It says on wikipedia that Haney was Undisputed Champion at Lightweight. That means Haney had all the championships at Lightweight. And Haney is WBC Super Lightweight champ. So Haney is more credentialed than Garcia I think.


Ryan Garcia was WBC interim lightweight champ. The "interim" part confuses me.


I love when the less credentialed guy wins. I love when the underdog wins. The odds were wrong.



And yeah 3 lbs is not 50 lbs like you see the discrepancy sometimes in Heavyweight.

what are you talking about? 3 lbs is plenty. remember, it's not just 3 lbs, it's the LAST 3 lbs to get to weight. enough to have you feeling full, pack some power into your punches, and not feel sluggish–also less mentally draining.

i take it you don't watch boxing or follow it much, or don't know anyone who does combat sports, but losing those LAST 3 lbs is huge. enough to take away or put life into your punches.





ultimately. haney and his camp probably thought that garcia was kookoo so they can go in for the finish easily and early. they didn't put a rehydration clause in the contract. haney went in exposed and aggressive, knowing better than to hook with a hooker but still did it. and haney was looking to finish garcia.

not your typical haney fight, and i think garcia did a fantastic job with the mind games to throw the haney camp off. "crazy" garcia made haney lose all focus and become crazy himself

I usually chime in on boxing threads. I was quite surprised to see Garcia win the fight. I thought Haney would easily outbox him. I wasn't as impressed by Garcia in this fight as I was underwhelmed by Haney. I still don't think that Garcia has the legs or stamina (or mentality) to be truly great. Haney has no power, but I thought he would be able to take a couple of left hands from Ryan but win the fight on the cards. I was completely wrong. Even though it was close on the cards Ryan deserved the win. I think Haney is fukced for the rest of his career because he has no power and he probably can't drop lower than 140lbs. He doesn't have the chin or the power to be able to make it past 135lb and his body is more suited for 140lb+.
