Not talking about top tier, because you need genetics to get to that level. I'm talking about the average guy/girl who might compete in a regional show once or twice or tell everyone they are going to but chicken out every time.
There were probably a dozen women at my gym who were always "in prep" but when show time came there was always an excuse to not compete.

Not sure if it's just me, but a lot of people who got bullied in school did so because they tried to bully people but couldn't and got then got picked on - so they got into bodybuilding and stuff to try and get to a point where they can push someone around and be top dog.
Some guy at an old gym had an issue with me because 'he thinks he owns the gym', just because he's 5'5 on steroids claiming natty whilst I am 6'2 250 farm boy with no desire to juice up.
Another guy thought I was bullying him because I walk around with good posture and my chest out, since that's how I am built - mean while he's blasting gear and trying to trick himself into thinking he's straight or some sh*t (he's gay and in the closet).

I always told my guy friends if you want to date a hot girl with serious self esteem issues and zero personality, go after a fitness model. They are almost all train wrecks who need constant validation.

Sure, it feels good to be good, but my emotions are not dependant on what people think about me, if you catch my drift. I am totally content being alone most of the time. I actually just love to train and get a sick pump and eat a high protein meal and then got for a brisk walk.
The thing is I've had issues with people at the gym, like PTs who appear to only go to the gym to get something out of it - so musculature and leanness to feel superior to someone, and then they get angry and livid af if you don't give them the response they want. These people will even have success in other aspects of their life, since they feel like they need to prove themselves, but in my opinion that's stupid since I am content with myself.
I can sit around at the gym patiently for an hour or two and do my stuff and feel no negative emotions like worthlessness, boredom, or sadness - and it's like that bothers the typical gym/bodybuilding douche?
Not sure if you catch my drift? At this point in my life I am a bit like 'the dude' from that movie the big lebowski - I went through spiritual enlightenment and don't care about anything really, although I am still driven to put in effort. I just wouldn't take a bunch of roids to sleep with a bunch of girls just to brag about it to someone or take addys again just to get a uni degree.

Yeah, people who take it to extremes like that are cringe as fuk…and I'm saying that as someone who spends way too much time working out (I genuinely enjoy doing it though). Even more so, the ones that obsess like that and still have very mediocre (at best) physiques.

I also quit being so fixated on being "big", which I was for a long time. IMO above average muscle and being lean is the way to go, and also healthier and more aesthetic. I certainly did go through a phase of worrying about all that Bull Chit though like post workout "anabolic window", trying to get protein every few hours/not going too long without eating, etc etc

It's the same as running a business and making money - as long as you don't just look at the money and fall in love with it, there's nothing wrong with financial success.
The worst thing about being a gym rat, is that your emotions and sense of self are dependant on and attached to how you look or how you think you look.
The secret is to actually just not give a fugg and stop wanting anything from the world and live for God only and then you stop doing the comparisons that end up polarising you in strange ways.

Would you rather be obsessed with bodybuilding, eat healthy, lift regularly, be strong and fit
Or be like the average member of society, who probably abuses alcohol, eats junk food all day, sits in front of a gaming computer 24/7, stops by mcdonalds for a Cheese burger after work?

You dont have to be a bodybuilding obsessed juicehead or a fat beta gaming incel.
You can have a balanced, normal life with a few interests.
