3. Sarah died at aged 127 (Genesis 23:1-2).
4. Isaac was 40 when he married Rebekah (Genesis 25:20).
Two further facts are necessary inferences from the above four facts

5. Sarah was 90 when Isaac was born (conclusion from 1 and 2 above)
6. Isaac was 37 when his mother Sarah died (because 127-90=37)

The tradition takes certain events as happening at the same time. These events are: the binding of Isaac on the altar in Moriah (Genesis 22:9); Abraham informed of Rebekah’s birth (Genesis 22:20-23); and Sarah’s death aged 127 (Genesis 23:1-2).

If these events did all happen at the same time, within just a few weeks, then two more necessary inferences could be added to the six facts above...

7. Since Isaac was 37 at his mother’s death, he was 37 when Rebekah was born.
8. Since Isaac was 40 when he married Rebekah, Rebekah would be 3 when the marriage took place (because 40-37=3)

Gen 22:20-23 Abraham’s brother Nahor had 8 children from Milcah the last being Bethuel father of Rebekah.

Gen 11:29 Abram took Sarai as a wife Nahor took Milcah as his wife Gen 12:4 Abraham was 75. Age of fertility 20-40 latest . So Nahor would have to produce 8 children before 45 which would mean he would be much younger than Abraham.

Gen 17:17 Isaac was born when Abraham was 100 years old

Gen 21:8 Isaac was weaned see 1 Sam 1:21-23 nursing a child then weaned meaning the child can no longer breast feeding

Gen 22:5 Isaac is called a young man

Gen 22:20-23 Abraham was told that his brother had 8 children. By this time Bethuel had 8 children and been married for 37 years. 37 years have passed since Abraham and Nahor took wives If Isaac is 12 years old (young man) at this point.

Gen 25:20 Isaac was 40 years old when he married Rebekah.

So, if Rebekah was born when Isaac was 12 years old and Isaac married her at 40 then she would be at least 28 years old...



Let’s say Nahor was probably 17 when he took his wife and over the next 15 years had 8 children putting him at 32 years old. Therefore, 32 years have passed until the birth of Bethuel. 17 years later Rebekah is born meaning 49 years have passed since Nahor took his wife to the time Rebekah is born. Isaac would be 24 years old at this time and if Isaac married Rebekah at 40 that would make her 16 years old. If Nahor had the 8 children in less than 15 years say it took him 12 years to have 8 children assuming he had children with only his wife then, Rebekah would be about 19 years old.

If Nahor had 8 children in 10 years or 8 years having concubines Rebekah could have been in her 30’s when she married Isaac.

One could only speculate that Rebekah was between 16-28 years old when she married Isaac. Any, suggestion that she was younger would be absurd.

Gen 24:16 “The young woman was very attractive in appearance whom no man had known”.
