Thats a really nice Longines. I’m going to have to take some time to think about this, and try a few on. I’ll update when I pull the trigger.
Cant complain about it. Was the first bigger watch purchase I made. Got about $200 off it too at the dealer.

Sup Bros. Thought i'd share a funny watch situation that happened to me recently. My good buddy from college just turned 35, and his girl wanted me to help her find a watch for him.

The funny context is that he's a manchild and has by far the worst watch "collection" i've ever seen. A samsung smart watch, 3 obscure IG brand watches that cost him $250, and his "good" watch which was a $800 (non functioning) chronograph quartz Shinola. Girlfriend says her budget is $1000 to $1500…

My only goal was to get him an actual respectable mechanical swiss made watch. He was showing me watches he liked at dinner. Basically chronograph dials and he was insistent on having a steel bracelet since he doesn't have one yet. First went to the Oris Aquis, but remembered he preferred the chronograph "sporty" look. So i thought it was a little to clean for what he wanted. Went to Breitling for a colt, but that's more 2k to 5k price range. Not sure what made me look at Tag Heuer but I landed on probably the perfect piece that was close enough to her price range. Tag Heuer Formula Caliber 5

Couldn't get him a steel bracelet chronograph for under $2000, but i think this a good alternative. 43mm so it's bigger like he wanted, steel bracelet, polished hour indices, lume, sunburst dial, and an actual ETA swiss movement with a date function by a real watch brand. Also think this is pretty universal style that he could get away with in a suit. What would you guys have come up with in this instance? Was tougher than I realized since you can't even really touch Breitling or Tudor under $2500.

Probably not a terrible choice as it looks pretty nice and he'll probably love the name recognition amongst his chit collection. Double check that it's an ETA movement though. I think they used to use ETA but use Selitta now. Not that it matters much, but still.

I’ve got a soft spot for a vintage Monaco. I’m not sure I could pull it off, but a good friend of mine does. Really nice watch imo

Yeah strong this. The finishing alone should be night and day from anything he currently owns. High polish hour indices, lume, and the case looks low profile so it should actually be comfortable too. Tag kinda hangs around that Breitling tier of brand cloute so hopefully he digs it.

Same, it's kind of like the cartier santos for me. I love it in pictures but whenever i try it on wrist, it just looks potato. I mess with them though.

Yeah 50/50 chance it's a sellita. I'm just happy to get a semi-decent watch on that man's wrist. No Danielle Wellington, Shinola fukery.

Was biting my tongue so hard two years ago when he and his gf were showing me his "chronograph" shinola. The chrono function was just cosmetic cause the buttons didn't do anything. She's a elementary school teacher that makes like 60k, and he was really into the piece. Was just sitting there thinking "don't tell them it's dog schit. don't tell them it's dog schit…"

Damn willbruh is a live.

And not a bad choice. I started looking and longines and hamilton, and even those creep out of the 2k price range. However, the jazzmaster chronos are *right* or around the 2k mark so maybe Jomashop or a local dealer will give you a discount.

Here is a photo and video. Really solid lume. It's somewhat noticeable pretty much anytime you come indoors.

Do any of you bother to match a watch strap color with your belt/shoes? It feels a bit off when all the leather that I have is brown except for the watch strap, but the watch alone looks a lot better in black. Inb4 bracelet crew.

When i run nato's on anything i tend to at least make sure it "goes" with what im wearing. Not necessarily belt/shoes, just clothing in general.

Y'all are wearing belts and shoes?

All my leather straps are black and I wear brown flip flops to the office. Suppose I should sort that out.

Based on what I read in other forums, this is a mixed bag. Some collectors say being matchy with watches is for people who should stick to fashion watches. This is particularly true with top tier watches that come with very bold straps. Hardly anyone wears blue shoes regularly, but blue straps are pretty common with nice watches. The general thought is make it work, don’t bother with matching leathers the way people do with shoes and belts.

Some people are more conservative and make everything match up. I think it depends on the whole picture.

People can figure out ways to go into debt or make stupid choices to obtain a Rolex to flex. AP/PP not so much. lol

Separate note… I feel like I need a bracelet for the FF. Holy crap at them being $2700.

I had to play the AD song and dance but it wasn’t too terrible. My wife made out like a bandit though. I originally went in to “put my name on the list” earlier this year but could tell the woman was basically blowing me off unless I bought something else. About a month or two ago I went back in with my wife (and newborn) and bought a nice little Tudor for her. It was a different associate who helped us this time so I gave her my info and Rolex wish-list and she seemed much more amenable. Went back again recently to get some gold bracelets for my wife for her birthday/our anniversary and the same associate said I probably wouldn’t have to wait much longer for my submariner to come in. She texted me like two weeks later (accidentally, she thought she was texting my wife so she could surprise me or something) saying “call me at the store, I have very good news for your hubby.”

My wife is convinced for some reason that the associate wants to fuk me. Not sure why she thinks that but don’t care, got a rolex.

I inherited my grandfather’s 1950’s oyster date last year and I really need to send it in to be serviced (crown is broken, crystal face is pretty fuked) but I keep putting it off because at some point he switched out the band for one of those cheap flexible ones. The ADs I’ve spoken to have said rolex won’t service it without putting a new bracelet on it which would probably cost $3k

I’ve spent 5 minutes looking at that thing and still can’t tell what time it’s reading
And relief washes over me in an awesome wave

Still have my DeepSea which I love but am on the list for the GMT SS Rolex on jubilee. If that ever comes in don’t care the dial color I’ll buy it then either trade or sell mine.
If it never comes in I don’t care. I’ll never pay more than msrp for anything.
