Oof, that's brutal. I'd still do it, but it would hurt. Maybe send it with a strap and pray? lol

So it looks like I might swap the blue dial titanium on sailcloth for the black titanium on the ti x71 bracelet. The dealer is really cool and said he'd take it back and give me the same discount on the bracelet model.

My sister has a date just. And all of this time she thought the jubilee bracelet was two tone with white gold. I told her that the only part that's white gold was the fluted bezel, and she was not happy. lol

The general thought is make it work, don’t bother with matching leathers the way people do with shoes and belts.

Some people are more conservative and make everything match up. I think it depends on the whole picture.
That's some pleb level thinking when it comes to style.

Of course you're not going to exactly match blue straps with blue shoes, hat, whatever, but a wrist watch is an accessory and it IS part of your outfit, therefore logically you should make it flow with said outfit.

Money doesn't buy you taste, I've seen countless of dudes rocking 20-50k watches dressed like bums. To each their own, but that's not how I personally roll.

check with this guy "https://www.instagram.com/wristwatch_revival/?hl=en"

I’ve spent 5 minutes looking at that thing and still can’t tell what time it’s reading
.

The time display is also very special, though it has been used in the other watches in the Great Explorer series. The hours glide en passant across a stationary arc painted with the minute markers from 0 to 60 in 10 minute intervals. They way the hours are displayed is via a complex mechanism. The hour numerals are carried on an hours wheel which is equipped with three arms. Each arm bear four hour numerals in Arabic at its peripheral. The entire satellite structure rotates, such as at any one time, only one numeral on one arm shows within the aperture of the 120° arc cut on the dial.

I love how watch design comes full circle. Half of the watches that are $50k+ look a lot like stuff you'd find in weird department stores. lol

I should also add to this, Rolex is kind of weird with servicing vintage watches, as they like to replace everything with new parts that lower the value (hands, dial etc.) Send it to somewhere like LA Watch Works and they are as good as it gets and will service it keeping it as original as possible.

Buddies of mind have asked me about watches they buy a few times over the years, and it’s usually some quartz fashion watch. I’m nice about it and mention the stuff I like. So far it’s Armani and Daniel Wellington watches (I don’t even remember the third). The friend who bought Armani mentioned how it looks better than Omega watches that he tried on. I diverted and said “those aren’t for everyone”. How do you respond if asked about watches? I’d say 96% percent of people, at least, are drawn to fashion watches over a good Seiko/Hamilton/Tissot at the same price point.

I complement them for looking nice and move on.

Critiquing watch choices of non-watch people would be like a car collector criticizing someone for the new Camry they bought. Their purpose is completely unrelated to ours.

I’ve had multiple ADs tell me that Rolex will only service it if they can “restore it to its original condition” or something like that, meaning that they would include the cost of a new bracelet in any servicing they would do. The fact that it’s so old makes the whole thing kind of a toss-up though, since I doubt they even have many of the original parts lying around
And relief washes over me in an awesome wave

They probably have the parts. A new bracelet is worth it imo. I rarely wear bracelet watches, but Rolex looks best in the original configuration most of the time IMO.

Either way though, probably best to send it to an independent like LAWW. You work directly with them and they can even give you advice. One of the founders, Eric Ku, is like the experts' expert.

Yeah that 2k range is a tough market. literally only have Longines, entry-Tags, and Oris.

May as well. Few exceptions in here of course, but most of the time if you're dropping 5 figures on a time piece, you want it to be recognizable and relatively hold value.

Love when non-watch people get Rolexs. It's amusing af. The guy I sold my blue datejust to asked me if he should "put a new battery in it". u wot m8? Isn't new money amusing?

This was more or less what i battled with before my friend got the Tag. Dudes collection consisted of shinolas and danielle wellingtons and he would ask me what i thought of them.

Kicking off this holiday weekend with a new arrival. Well, new to me.

Spoiler!
Some of you might remember that I had bought my dad an IWC pilot watch (mark xvi) years ago. I chose it because his vision isn’t so great, and because his dream was to be a pilot he was young. He was disqualified due to failing a vision test that showed he is colorblind. He told me that story when trying to explain that life doesn’t always turn out the way you plan.

In any case, it was on my mind that I should get him something a little different and in-house now that some time has gone by. This one is about as different as it gets. I stuck with IWC and got him this Portugueser (F.A. Jones):

Inb4 no chronograph. Yeah, I’d have gone that route for sure if it was for me. I was really tempted. The other one I considered was the 40mm, with 60 hour power reserve. The numerals were just too small for this situation though. Anyway, he likes it, so it worked out.

I got the most compliments on my watch back when I wore a Seiko “Cocktail Time”.

Got put on a list for a batman, pepsi, or green bezel sub at the AD today. I've bought a watch from them before, and my family has bought a few as well. We were there getting my little sister a blue dial date just. First time ever being put on a list, so fingers crossed I get the call eventually. The sales employee was very friendly.

Buying a datejust to get on the list to be afforded the opportunity to potentially buy a watch at MSRP.

Walked into an AD randomly today. Had a chance to buy this. Had to fight it, but passed.

Connected fairly well with the sales lady. Bought a necklace for my wife. Asked if she would please call me about the next SS DJ41, Explorer, or SD43 they get- that I wanted an heirloom to pass down to my son (who was with me) in remembrance of my mother passing. She said that she'd be happy to, and that they could engrave it for me if I'd like. The last part makes me believe I'll actually get a call.
