In Skyautist's brain the Ruble will crush the Euro, this makes sense and is also good for the Ruble.

The Swiss government is setting up a gas sector crisis intervention group and a monitoring system for early detection of an impending electricity shortage, it said on Wednesday, as it prepares for the possibility of "severe" power shortages.

The Swiss government began drawing up plans in April for a potential gas shortage in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, saying measures were being developed ranging from appealing to the public to reduce consumption to possible power rationing in the event of a crunch.

You may be correct about the recession but the ruble has nothing to do with it. The ruble price is effectively zero.

Nice of Russia to invade in the Spring, and goof for the EU to finally get off the tit of a corrupt government that’s always hated the West and everything we stand for.

If we all crash the country that can still produce the basics is going to weather the storm much better. Things in the US are going to get tough but manageable.....europe though seems to be completely fuked

#Ukraine and #Russia have agreed on a ceasefire from May 5 to May 7 on the territory of #Azovstal.

The defenders of #Mariupol use this time to prepare civilians and the area for evacuation. Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Reintegration Irina Vereshchuk said in an interview.
Let's see if the ceasefire at azovstal lasts.

The rest of the world and Russia? You can't sell your shares if you're in Russia and most of the free world can't trade it.

It's effective rate is zero to the world except governments dealing with Russia; comparing the Ruble to the USD, YEN or even a piece of toilet paper is not an accurate comparison.

Something that cannot be bought or sold is worth zero.

Nobody is buying Rubles outside of Russia, it's wholly worthless outside of Russia, even if you were sitting on a pile of Rubles for some obscure reason - instead of EUR and USD - you wouldn't be able to exchange them for actual currencies or buy crap with them. The one and only place on the planet where you can exchange Rubles for anything else is Russia, where coincidentally you are forced to pay for whatever in Rubles. And then you still have to deal with inflation and whatnot.

Based on official exchange rate, 1 USD is worth 4.4 or so Venezulean bolivar and 127 or so Japanese Yen. Based on that logic Venezuela is an economic powerhouse, while Japan is a third world chithole.

We began a currency war to crash the ruble, thats why people are posting the rubles value. It shouldnt be going up while we're kneecaping ourselves to bring it down

As we learned yesterday, if you even want to buy something from Russia with your useless rubles, the only real export they have are fossil fuels. Pretty much a useless country.

What are you not understanding? The rubles value is zero.

The price "going up" is because it's managed right now by the Central Bank of Russia (CBR) and if you as a person hold Rubles you cannot sell them. It's a fake number.

btw the thing about not selling rubles is not even accurate if I'm not mistaken. I think Russians have like a limit of exchanging not more than 10k USD.
So if you live in russia you can still buy ruble and you can still sell ruble...soooo yea you guys dunno wtf your talking about

I never did. The russians have played it well to keep their currency afloat, for some time there i doubted very much that they could.

Its mostly “artificial” though. You can, as a state, control somewhat the value of your currency. You cant hwoever control your gdp... we’ll see how well that is going to do.

People having been claiming the sanctions wont do anything to russia and will backfire in the wests face since day 1. Again, we will see.

Who's "we"? You're still not American. And yes you, as Russians started a war.

No, we were pointing out from day one how the sanctions and all of the European companies pulling out from Russia would wreck Russia's economy and whatnot - since, you know Russia can no longer import parts to run and produce crap like airlines, logistics and their industry, not to mention nobody will want to buy the stuff that they can't even produce now -, and how the exchange rate is pure cope.

Yes many games can be played with currency. The thing is we're paying the price for this, and people want to see results for the cost. The vast majority of americans dont hate russia enough to lower their standard of living just to spite them but if thats what we're forced to do we want to at least see a return on the investment

The benchmark MOEX index declined 1.1% Monday—the first day that the Bank of Russia allowed trading in all Russian shares. Only 33 stocks were allowed to trade when the market reopened last week.

Russia shuttered its stock market after the West unleashed sanctions targeting the country’s banking system and the central bank’s access to its foreign-currency reserves. Moscow has slowly eased these restrictions, though foreigners remain unable to sell their shares, stalling an expected selloff.

Before the war, foreigners owned around three quarters of the shares available to public investors in Russia, known as the free float, and were responsible for around half of the trading volume each day. Russian shares listed in London and New York plunged after the war began, and many have been delisted or suspended because of the sanctions.

Limiting foreigners from selling shares helps safeguard the ruble, which has recouped some of its losses from earlier this month in recent sessions.Foreign stockholders selling ruble-denominated shares would likely move that money into euros or dollars, weakening the value of Russia’s currency once again.

Russia has been able to prop up the ruble despite global sanctions by hiking interest rates, preventing Russian brokers from selling securities held by foreigners and demanding payment for gas and oil deliveries in rubles, among other actions. These measures have allowed Moscow to artificially manufacture demand for the ruble, even as the nation's economy remains in tatters.
